I have been checking out the stuff on Youtube evidently I have been eating all the wrong stuff all of my life. Todays Daily Mail had an article on it, I dont take newspapers and only found out about it from the Everyday living board. I had heard of the SWANK and Whal diets but several years ago I was told by my then Specialist that Diet plays no part in reversing PPMS or indeed any type of MS. I took him at his word after all he had said 'life is to short to chase crackpot diets ’ but today I am in a wheelchair feeling crap and have spent a few minutes watching some youtube videos and I liked this one told by a young child Ben about his Mum Feldenkrais Method Improves Multiple Sclerosis - YouTube I also have written a blog post http://disableddon.blogspot.co.uk/2016/07/overcoming-multiple-sclerosis-with-diet.html which I enjoyed. Have a quick search on Youtube for MS Diets cures etc
Hello Don, it would be wonderful if it worked, but i suppose anything that makes you feel healthier is good but unfortunately there isn’t a cure. Lee’s trying to reverse his type 2 diabetics so we are both trying to eat healthy food,he’s lost a stone so thats good.
Michelle I went from borderline diabetic to not anywhere near by diet. I cut out the rubbish and the sweets. I don’t eat unhealthy but I am putting on weight especially since getting electric wheelchair I can’t move much but don’t do anything to burn the calories off hence I am now according to George our son “wearing fat git trousers” he helped me try on a new suit today and I am a forty inch waist.
The ever expanding waistline is the danger sign Dom - Anything over 38’’ is supposed to be the red flag line for type2 diabetes. 5-2 diet is supposed to help reverse this - as well as many other health benefits. And now they have discovered that intermittant fasting is good for us with MS. lts not really fasting - as 500 cals for women and 600 for men is hardly starvation.
You can still eat your bacon sarnies on the 5days - and fish and chips.
Just don’t use your calorie allowance up with carbs - eat protein/green veg/salad. Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon is one of my favourites.
Alcohol is another hidden diet buster.
We need a leader Dom - Now - You do it and others will follow. -
We should not be hauling around all this blubber - because soon we shall be needing assistance to hoist us in and out of chairs/beds/baths. lts not fair on family either.
Most of us live in denial. We all know that it is too much food that makes us fat - yet so many of us are looking for excuses.
As soon as l notice one of my dogs looking a bit portly - l just cut down on the amount l feed them - takes only a small reduction for a good result in a few weeks. Wish someone would do the same for me.
My sister is on the paleo diet (is that what it’s called?). No bread, pasta, potatoes, rice…etc etc. She’s always trying to get me on it but good God my life is difficult enough!!! And when my fatigue is bad I crave carbohydrates.
After radiotherapy session today I will be halfway through it. My fatigue is through the ceiling but it feels different than my usual fatigue. I feel less restless with it somehow.
I started this post with something to say about your diet but it’s already gone out of my head! I would give an arm and a leg for a bacon sandwich.
Hope you are feeling okay now, I am still in bed I have slept all morning and now I am awake Heather has had to go out for an hour so tennis in bed for me.
There’s nothing like a bacon sarnie Don…but it has to have brown sauce, and no Brie, that will do me nicely. Sounds like you had a great day out, and I have seen the knitting around tree trunks here, and they look pretty…until it rains, and then it looks like a soggy mess, each to their own I suppose.
I’m doing the mimic-fasting thing. I’m finding it far easier than 5:2 as the calorie allowance is better for a start and it can work ok with my husband. The three restricted days need to be consecutive so I’m doing Mon-Weds and with or after the covent garden soup we have for tea, he’ll have something extra. It’s supposed to be half calories so 1,000 for a woman. I’m not a big eater so I’m loosely aiming for 900cals on restricted days
I’m still coping well with taking my Tecfidera, lost a tad over half a stone in first 5 weeks and I’m hesitant to say this but I have one smallish improvement that started two weeks ago and I’m crossing fingers that it’s here to stay
We watched a Michael Moseley programme and fasting does promote the development of new neural pathways. There are still the odd hunger pangs but finding it ok.
It feels quite healthy as I’m drinking far more water - 3 or 4 mugs of tea is actually quite a lot of calories
Bacon sandwiches are just not the same with gluten free bread but I’ve discovered a really good Warburton’s GF loaf so might have to try again very soon. My tummy is rumbling now just thinking about it!
I’ve not tried brie and bacon but sounds yummy so I think that goes on my next shopping list
Your blogs always cheer me up, my next one’s a bit of a grumpy one but needs to be done!
A good use for iceberg lettuce - is to use the leaves to wrap - bacon/brie/tomatoes in - roll up and enjoy - no need for bread.
l make yuk sang — minced pork - spring onions/fresh grated ginger/garlic - chilli - stir fried in a little sesame oil - add soy sauce and oyster sauce at the end. Use the iceberg lettuce leaves like bowls - fill and roll up. Another high protein -no carb meal. Great for the 5-2 diet. And l always thought iceberg lettuce so tasteless -now l use it a lot - makes good breadless sandwiches.
Don, Iv’e just sold a pair of Lee’s "Fat git trousers " on ebay to another “poor fat git” they were his Father of the groom trousers, hes lost loads of weight since our sons wedding i’m determined he’s not going to grow back into them!
I know what you mean about the electric wheelchair me and Frazer go for miles burning off all his calories but sadly not mine.
