Ah yes, I fully understand you!

SPCs are good, but not fallible, sadly!

Had mine 3 years now and there have been great times, with no worries whatsoever, then other times when I wondered if it`s all worth it.

But, yes it is and we have to take the good with the bad.

Now was your night bag full? Had you not emptied it before lights out and it had backed up?

Other reasons it could have bypassed might be a kinked tube, not lying flat enough, a uti perhaps?

I also get spasms and they can cause a bypass and you know no reason for it happening.

Oh hang on, you wont have had it changed yet, wil you? my first changed was 12 weeks…and I think this is usual…but it would probably be best of it was changed now.

I went from 12 weeks for the first and it was stuck! Then down to 6 weekly and have been 4 weekly for some time now.

Are you taking any bladder meds? Im on betmiga and have recently tired oxybutynin patches...dont think they suit me as theyve caused itchyness.

I am seriously thinking of having botox into my bladder. My uro has offered it to me.

I think you need to ring your district nurses and they will advise. Although my first change was due to be done in hospital, as is normall ythe case, they did it at home for me.

Hang in there chuck.

Hi Poll

Q so much for your kind reply - I will definitely give all your tips a try - I was just hoping for more from my new catheter .

Do you have problems during the day with by-passing? Or is it only at night. The drainage holes in the catheter are tiny - and it does not take much for them to get blocked and cause this problem. The main problem can be because the catheter head can get ‘sucked’ into the bladder wall. You need to make sure you regularly turn the tube round and round - and even pull back on it a tiny bit. This will make sure it is ‘sited’ in a new position. Also, as Poll says - a kink in the tubing will also cause it not to flow. l have a short length catheter and use a bag without tubing - direct contact. And l just use a length of lace/cord threaded through the eyelets and tied around my waist. Works a treat - been doing this for over 20yrs!!! l do drink lots of water - and l also drink a pint of water with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and teaspoon of honey in it – hot or cold water. This keeps the bladder healthy - neutralises the ‘ph’ in the urine. Hopefully, once you have had this catheter changed things will settle down. lt is a ‘foreign’ body so your bladder will want to react. Make sure it is not a latex cath - as many people find they cannot tolerate them. lf at anytime you do feel as if you are going to by-pass - try standing up and moving about - squeeze the tubing see if you can cause a vacuum to dislodge whatever is blocking it. And don’t forget to keep it turning. Spasms can also be a sign of infection/uti -

Magnesium Glycinate taken in the morning and before bedtime will help stop spasms - not only in your bladder but also your legs.

l take magnesium along with vitd3 and all the Bvits as l am following the Dr Coimbra protocol for auto-immune diseases.

Hope you get back some confidence with your spc - as they can make such a difference to your life.
