Hi, for the last couple of weeks I’ve been getting pain and a burning sensation in my big toes. It’s not constant and sometimes it’s in one or the other and sometimes both. Because it’s intermittent I’m assuming it isn’t an injury or arthritis and wondered if anyone has any idea what it is or what I can do about it please? Walking can be hard enough without added obstacles!
Nerve pain can be felt like a burning sensation, especially in toes.
Ask your GP about Gabapentine, Pregabalin or Amitriptyline .
Nerve pain can show itself as different to “normal” pain, a burning sensation is common for nerve pain.
In MS its basically the nerves feeding that part of the body being over stimulated or damaged perhaps, so you need a drug to calm the nerves, such as something like one of the ones mentioned.
I have burning toes radiating into my foot, I took a photo and showed my GP she said (on the strength of one photo) Raynaud’s disease. I’m still trying to find out more about Raynauds as I’m not convinced although one piece I read said it can be associated with MS.
PS my toes swell slightly too it isn’t simply burning pain. Also it happens mostly on an evening when my body gets warm and cosy it seems the blood going to extremities causes my problem.
I’m aware that Gabapentain & Amatriptalin (panic spelling) are the go to for this situation. I’ve used both to combat the sensations that plague increasingly large parts of my body…
TBH the drugs caused me more (cognitive) difficulty than the sensations and did precious little to relive the symptoms…
Not suggesting this will necessarily be anyone else’s experience of these drugs, but I feel it needs to be pointed out that, in some cases, they maybe more problematic than the fizz…
