Bladder Botox - looking for advice please

Hi all. I waited and withered for months about Botox, and finally had it done four weeks ago today. It was effective after about 60 hours and transformed my life. Fewer trips to the loo, no soggy pads, it fact after a few days “just in case” I stopped using them, no more damp underwear, no worries about smell or leaving damp patches, or stressing about where the nearest accessible loo might be if not at home.

I was told it would last about nine months. I’ve got my follow up appointment at the end of May.

BUT - just now disaster! Well, not quite a disaster, but some leakage by the time I got to the loo, I had that urgent “tingle” perhaps I shouldn’t wait for that, could it be that I just waited too long, maybe bladder capacity hadn’t improved as much as I thought. Please don’t let it be wearing off already.

Anyone any thoughts?

I haven’t had that happen to me so soon. When it’s working at its best I don’t really get the feeling that I need to go so I tend to think “it’s a long time since I went so I better go now!”

Are you doing ISC or are you going naturally? I do ISC 5 or 6 times a day. Maybe try not waiting for that feeling but preempting when you should need to go if that makes sense. It’s worth a try.

I go next Thursday to have mine redone, should have been done in February but they are running late unfortunately.

Crikey that 4 weeks has fled past!

But oh no! If it is already starting to lose its effectiveness, then that aint so good hun!

Maybe as Dogtanion says, your ISC needs tweaking. Try wearing a small pad just incase, then you`ll feel less worried about accidents.

Hi Eve

What a flaming let down. Just a thought though, have you got a UTI? That could be the cause of it.

Because my bladder hasn’t worked properly for years, the only time I might have had incontinence has been with a UTI. It was always a clue to get it tested.

Good thinking Sue, I should have thought of that! I take a low dose preventative antibiotic to prevent UTI’s as I was getting them all the time when I began doing ISC.

Thanks, I think maybe I waited too long. I has been using up to six catheters a day, but the pharmacist at my gp’s surgery thinks that’s too many! So I was trying to cut it to four, which meant going longer without going so to speak. Five or six meant no leaks and hardly any urine leaving naturally. Whose bladder is this anyway. I’ll go back to 5/6 a day. Never had a UTI would there be any other symptoms such as high temp or feeling unwell. No temp and feel really well.

I used 6 a day and if they don’t like it, just arrange to get your catheters delivered by one of the many companies who don’t give you any cr@p about how many you use.

Or of course speak to your GP and get them to pass the message on about how many is appropriate for you to use
