Hi mrsJ & celtic girl,

It’s nothing to to worry about, your “tadpoles” are perfectly normal and everybody gets them. Tadpoles are only tiny bits of stuff like jelly, called collagen, that helps to keep the eyeball a round shape.

As the jelly gets older, small bits clump together together and make shadows on the back of the eye, and it’s the shadows that we see as dark specks floating around in our vision. They’re much more noticeable on bright summer days.

It has nothing to do with optic neuritis. That creates a dramatic loss of vision and covers a much bigger area than tadpoles ever do.

These tadpoles never grow into frogs.
