Avonex - travel, 12 volt fridge??

Hi everyone

I’ve recently started on Avonex (weekly injections) and would like to travel in our Motorhome. Whilst we have a fridge in the motorhome there may be times when it won’t be running eg on a ferry, so I’d like a backup 12 volt fridge if possible that we can run off the battery. Can anyone recommend any or let me know what they do?

I have a Biogen supplied travel bag but I’m struggling to work out how long it will maintain the temperature between 2 and 8 degrees. It’s also strange that you have to open the bag and remove the ice packs to see the temperature gauge as this will let the cold out/heat in! I assume once the temperature rises above 8 then you have to assume you only have 7 days left to use the 'Pen otherwise you have to throw it away.

If anyone has any tips on travelling please let me know.

I’m also about to embark on getting quotes for travel insurance - my first attempt was Saga who quoted £135 for the year. Does that sound reasonable and has anyone had any better offers recently?

Many thanks in advance.

I had a 12 volt fridge I got from Argos I had it in my office at work for when the Avonex was delivered. The fridge as great.

we also kept milk in it and sandwiches. It didn’t hold much and it was tiny but it did the job brilliantly.

What wasn’t brilliant was the Avonex. That toxic venom caused nothing but problems.

Thanks Florence, yes I was looking at the ones in Argos but the Q&As were suggesting they’re not ideal for storing medicines as they struggle to keep a constant temperature and only go a certain amount below ambient temperature. Maybe yours was better than the ones they’re selling now.

Sorry the Avonex didn’t work for you, I’ve got my fingers crossed it’s doing some good for me. But i would much prefer to pop a pill!
