Yvette, you poor thing, a bad night like that does not help your coping mechanisms! I hope you sleep better tonight.
I suspected that’s why my surgery simply cranked up my volumes when I discussed it last. I usually take at 8.30m but will go for 7.30-8 ish if I want an early night and an early start.
I’ll only take them after 9pm if I know I don’t have to get up in the morning, and especially if I might want to so that perfectly normal (Pre-MS!) thing of having a glass or two of wine with a meal.
I was always a lightweight but now it’s a joke, I don’t want to mix the pills with alcohol so it all need planning & preperation these days! It’s a bonus if plans involve lunch, than I will/can have a couple of glasses
Hi, Im on 150mg Amitriptyline at night, while they do work, and they work well, the side effects can be a little daunting, you probably won’t remember half of what’s happened, but you’ll entertain your family with your antics, so I’ve been told.
I’m also on 1800mg Gabapentin daily as well, 2x3 a day.
You do have to be carefull with Amitriptyline, like most drugs…but, they are very powerfull and will interfere with your judgement about whats safe and whats downright stupid.
Hi guys, Rachael started taking this yesterday for itchiness and nerve pain and slept for 13 hours straight. She has not had a full nights sleep in months so was really needing it. She is a teenager too so sleeps more than normal folks so 13 hours to her was what she used to get. She is like a zombie today but I just put that down to her M.S. as she had a busy day yesterday, maybe its the drug. She has spent the whole day in bed and is still tired. If she had responsibilites or job I don’t know how she would cope either without the sleep or the zombie feeling if she takes the drug (I too can’t spell it so won’t even try). I don’t know how anyone on here copes with their lives i.e. work, families, home feeling as tired and as sore as Rachael does. Fair play to you all. I really take my hat off to you. Linda x
Husband taking 50mg amitriptiline and not having any effect not on moods pain or sleeping in fact no side affects no benefits but a alot of medication and treatments suggested by ophalmologists /gps/ in past have been like this.Even the immune drugs did nothing .This is quite worrying as we cannot understand it ,we laugh and say he is an alien lol xxx julie
The 10mg only worked for me for the first couple of days and now it doesn’t help so will be upping the dose to 20mg for a few days and see if that works. Julie there aren’t many things that people with ms can take to help with sleeping as a lot of the drugs interfere with the brain but worth speaking to the ms nurse about things and asking for advice

Hello, new to this forum, 1st post. Had MS for 15 years on have been on interferon over 10 years. I get sleep problems and have to use amitriptyline - the lowest dose 10mg. But I find it to powerful and it can take most of the next dat to ‘wake up’ so I can only use it as (a sort of) weekend treat if my sleep is that bad.
I’ve used other treatments when I got a bladder problem, detrusitol and the solifenacin (?) but I gained a tolerance to them so went onto amitriptyline.
I wake up for work at 6am, IF I’ve managed to sleep fully, otherwise it can be 3:30/4/4:30 etc so when I get t work I’m already tired. Does anyone have any tips for getting a full nights sleep or other drugs that I could ask my doctor about?
