Hello, There is a big birthday in our family on Sunday and I was wondering if I would be ok to have half a glass of champagne ? I am taking Gabapentin, Amytriptiline and Tramadol ? Thanks peeps Krissy
My neuro said your on meds they’re prob here to stay but you’ve to enjoy life I had a day out had a Smirnoff ice on the bus then 2 wines slept Throygh the first half and then was awake the second half . So think not drinking it’s about the sleepiness X
Hi Em, Thanks for that hun. I cant drink like I used to because my bladder goes nuts ! Lol but I shall have a glass and enjoy it. Hope your doing ok Krissy x
I’d go with that. You got to have a life. The alternative is a lot of sitting around watching paint dry, plants grow or dust gather. Just enjoy it. Gary
I’m on baclofen, diazepam, quinine, and (as needed) paracetamol and codeine.
Yesterday - also at a family gathering - I drank a glass of prosecco, two G&Ts, and half a bottle of red.
I’m not bragging, and I’m not recommending - I’m sure no doctor would go on the record as endorsing my behaviour. But you’re worried about half a glass of champagne?

Hi, Has anyone had had alcohol whilst taking Amitriptyline ? I’ve this and gabapentin, was worried about the ami though with a drink as says in info do not drink?? Thanks Ally
I got a bit concerned when I started Baclofen (I also take amitriptyline) and realised I wasn’t supposed to drink at all and would be effectively full-time medicated! I called sugery and spoke with a GP, she got the big book out and said side-effects are you’ll feel a bit drowsy and then commented, wouldn’t you feel like that anyway?
Basic advice was I should be ok with a drink or two but don’t go on a bender as clearly it’d be dangerous.
Hi, Has anyone had had alcohol whilst taking Amitriptyline ? I’ve this and gabapentin, was worried about the ami though with a drink as says in info do not drink?? Thanks Ally
I usually have a couple of glasses of wine or spirits but they do make me feel very drowsy so I haven’t tried any more than that. I’m on 20mg amitriptyline at night and it puts me in a very deep sleep when I’ve had alcohol that night. I’m too chicken to try pushing it past a couple of glasses … Tracey x
Hi Krissy,
Baclofen and amitriptyline are muscle relaxants, so is alcohol. Think if you have a drink it will make you a bit wobbly but it would do anyway! Probably wouldn’t drive even if you;ve only had a glass.
I told my MS nurse I could live the rest of my life with MS ( I have no choice)m but I couldn’t live it without alcohol - I don’t drink much (I type while I’m on my weekly gin and tonic!). It helps the spacticity in my calves - the quinine in the tonic of course.
Have a great party and enjoy a little drink .you deserve it

ps sorry about the blue - that will teach me trying to save time by cutting and pasting amitriptyline from Tracey’s post.
Hi folks.
To hell with it. Have a drink. It’s a hangover whether you have MS or not and it’s a special occasion.
Don’t blame me for the hangover!!!
