hello all! Haven’t been here for a while, but having a bit of a relapse with lots of burning pain in my leg. gp has prescribed 10mg amitriptyline at night, and can take up to 30mg if I need to. fingers crossed that makes me feel better. I am like a bear with a sore head at the moment, my poor hubby and daughter are getting the brunt if it. Another question… The packet says ‘avoid alcohol’… does anyone have any experience in what happens if you do drink with it? does it mean the drug doesnt work as well? or just that you may feel even more groggy? I know that drinking to excess isn’t a great idea at the moment, but I do enjoy a glass of red in the evening… should I avoid? xxxk
I’m no expert I’m recently diagnosed but I’m on 30mg and the neuro said to enjoy Xmas just moderation and I’m on other drugs too yeah ms ones that sounded wrong
I’m on 25mg a day, like a glass of wine and have no problems I take mine an hour before I go to bed so they have time to start working by the time I need to go to sleep. When I first started taking them I found that getting up the following was like wading through treacle but that passed as I got used to them and when I started taking them slightly earlier in the evening.
I’m on 20mg at night and find if I have a couple of glasses of wine it just makes me sleep very heavily. I wouldn’t like to try drinking to excess.

Everything in moderation. Alcohol is a muscle relaxant and I take bacolfen which is too, just have to be careful.
Amitriptyline makes you sleepy which alcohol can do too so be careful driving or using heavy machinery (does an iron count?)
Patient.co.uk says ’
- Do not to drink alcohol while you are being treated with amitriptyline. Taking amitriptyline and alcohol will increase the chance that you experience side-effects.’
Which can cover anything.

thanks everyone, kind of you to reply. I’ll have the odd glass when I fancy it then, but perhaps only at home when it does’t matter if I fall asleep on the sofa! not sure that passing out in a bar is such a good look. especially now I’m in my 30’s! yes goldrat, i would think that an iron, hoover, and even a kettle would definitely count, so i had better steer clear, for safety reasons. xxxx
are dusters heavy too? don’t think i’ll take the risk. i knew that there had to be an upside to these drugs
