aids to help change the sheets on your bed.

Does anyone know of any aids to help you change the sheets on your bed? This is something I can’t do by myself. I normally get my PA to do it, but she is often ill and then I am stuck sleeping on dirty sheets which I can’t stand or the sofa, which is very uncomfortable. I got so frustrated this morning, that I tried to do it myself, but seriously hurt my back, I was literally crying and screaming in pain. There must be an easier way to do it. There are so many things that I really struggle to do. I hate living like this. Some days I don’t even get any dinner cos I can’t cook anything. Wish there was someone to help. Thanks, love Bex xxx

How often is your carer off? Dont you have anyone to stand in for her?

I was down to 1 carer from 3 recently and knew I couldnt put all my eggs in one Bev shaped basket.

The lovely Tash is now carer no 3, including towd man o course.

As soon as your carer returns, get her the bed changing!

Changing bed linen is impossible for us lot!

quite a lot. She has been off twice this year already. She seems to get ill nearly as much as me. I know it’s not her fault, it’s just very difficult when you rely on someone and they arn’t available. Yeah, I do, but she wasn’t available either. I only have her for 3 hours every monday. Can’t wait until next week, can’t sleep on dirty sheets, so I guess I will be sleeping on the sofa this week then. Was really hoping there was some sort of aid I could purchase. Need help with so many things now, but there isn’t anyone to help xxx

I like to try and work out solutions to problems like this - (I don’t always succeed) - but without knowing your capabilities it’s difficult to even start.

The first thing that springs to mind would involve how the sheet is folded originally - imagine a sheet folded into a quarter size - put the corner which is the centre of the sheet at the centre of the bed and simply unfold twice.

If you cant reach very far, maybe some tape sewn (or even stapled) to the corners would help.

I appreciate that any of this may be beyond your current capabilities, but it could be a start.

hi bex

dunno if this will help but have the duvet cover inside out.

put 2 corners of the duvet in and fasten them with pegs.

then shuffle the rest of the duvet in.

then the tricky bit give it a shake and bob’s your uncle.

having said that, i need to get in bed afterwards because it is so knackering!

don’t forget to remove the pegs!

I agree with Carole’s method of changing a duvet cover. (An alternative is to get help from someone.) Also, we use fitted sheets as I find these easier to change than flat sheets.

Sleeping bags.

Have you a long reach grabber for picking things up with ? I use mine to get a fitted sheet on as you can use it to pull down the corners from the other side of the bed. It’s not perfect but does until someone can do it better! P.S I do it from a seated position in a wheelchair

Tried this method. Still can’t do it xxx

anthony’s idea of using sleeping bags is brilliant.

hope you’ve got a clean bed now bex.

Hi Bex, oh! the trials of changing the duvet and sheets. I can still do it but it leaves me whacked for ages. I use the inside out method but it’s hard and takes me forever. After it’s done I look at the lumpy mess but I do have a sense of achievement.

Who would have thought a few years ago I would think of changing a bed as an achievment?

My daughter has said she would come and do it for me but it’s my stubbornness that’s at fault.

I do feel for you,Bex it’s a very tiring job but it’s lovely having clean bedclothes.

  • Oh vex,I’m sorry to hear about your troubles.I also can’t suffer a bed that needs changing
  • I’m lucky in that my daughter does mine. it’s times like this that you realise just how
  • Fortunate I am .only thing is to fold sheet in half length ways .try and place fold in centre of bed then start to get top side of sheet over then other half over.sorry if this don’t make sense
