Advice Needed Please!

Morning :relaxed:

I’m looking for some advice please.

I’m due to return from maternity leave next week & back into a full time role. I’m terrified as after having relapses, my mobility sucks and I just don’t know how and if I’m going to cope.

I’m searching for a part time role which is proving tricky but I can’t afford not to work so have no choice but to go back full time.

I’m worried about if I start and it’s all too much, I’ll have to give it up. If that happens then financially I’m screwed. I just don’t know what I would do in that situation. I have two children, rent and all the costs of everyday living that we all have.

Does anyone have any advice? It would be greatly appreciated :relaxed:

hi gemski

try Access to Work as i hear only good things about them.

the disability law states that employers should make reasonable adjustments.

i think access to work will help you decide what adjustments you need.

so get on the phone now!

good luck

Hi

This is the kind of horrible situation many of us will find ourselves in. Have you spoken to your boss/HR department about reducing your hours? Or are there any other changes that could be made to make things easier, like working from home sometimes, or doing some tasks that are slightly easier? You may be able to get the disabled component of tax credits too, which would take the slack of reducing your hours.

Get in touch with Access to Work too. It’s a DWP thing that helps people with disabilities to stay in work. They can provide support with things like specialist equipment, or paying for transport costs (I use it to pay for a taxi to & from work, which helps, especially at the end of a shift when I’m tired).

Don’t assume you can’t manage full-time before you’ve gone back - take each day at a time. If things become difficult then you may have to make changes.

Familiarise yourself with the Access to Work programme.
