A&E with a Lumbar puncture Headache

I’ve just been in A&E for 8 hours unable to lie flat following a call with 111 and then a doctor in A&E telling me I would be there overnight and get a blood patch in the morning. I had the lumbar puncture 4 days ago and after 8 hours of being in pain waiting for a bed another doctor said he wouldn’t advise a blood patch at this stage and the headache could take 14 days to resolve itself. Safe to say I’m gutted for the 8 hours lost in pain surrounded by loads of other really ill people in a really sorry state of an NHS A&E waiting room.

Safe to say I’m annoyed by the possibility of this headache last that long and having to remain in bed, also scared because of the reason I have the headache. Also regretful of having the test in the first place as I was in an OK way before having it done for once. But I do understand why it was done.

I just want to say thank you to everyone on here because I feel like this is the only place I don’t feel like I’m losing my marbles! Reading past posts has settled me and I don’t feel so overwhelmed by it all!

Oh crumbs that sounds ghastly - I am so sorry.
I really hope that you are feeling much better by now and that you are able to put that horrible experience behind you.

Thankfully the headache finally stopped about 8/9 days after the procedure! My back still feels sore and I’ve got bad fatigue but I’m back on the school run and doing multiple washes a day!

The bright side is family came to visit to help out with the kids :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: so it’s nice to know I have the support when I really need it! I hope all is well with you

That is good to hear. I agree that it’s important to set the automatic response switch to ‘yes’ when someone offers help - well done, accepting help when you needed it. I am glad that you are feeling a bit better.
