Does anyone have this or not? The DVLA says you do not need to have it but it is recommended, if you do have insurance how much are we roughly talking and with whom did you get it from?

you need a tax disc for it if you are driving it on the road, thats all I know, its why I got rid of mine and went for a car boot one. I didnt know about insurance, some suppliers do offer it though, but I couldnt find a site for it sorry.
https://www.gov.uk/mobility-scooters-and-powered-wheelchairs-rules/rules-for-class-3-invalid-carriages is about the tax disc.

l have used scooters for about 25yrs. Never taken out seperate insurance. Have got road tax - which is free. Ask you home insurers if you are covered on that policy. As they do cover you for third party damage.
YOU SHOULD TAKE OUT INSURANCE FOR A SCOOTER. Otherwise it is tantamount to driving a car without insurance and an 8mph is road legal.
If you drive on a road you MUST have insurance; I use http://premiercare.info/ £80 per year.
All scooter users should have insurance; what if you cause damage to someone or something even at 4mph on the pavement? Who is going to pay someone for something?
Anyone who does not have insurance is causing all scooter drivers to have a bad name.

i dont have a scooter but a powerchair and and have got insurance. simply cos if i run into someone and they break their leg then who pays? i am confident i wont but isnt that the whol.e point of insurance. expect the unexpected i say-like all things with ms!
ggood, I put a link on to the government website, if you have a look it does say it recommends insurance but does say this is not a legal requirement, but I think insurance is a really good idea too. I was run into by a very heavy person on a very heavy scooter who broke a bone in my foot, as they sat there apologising profusely… whilst still being parked on my foot… :-/
Hi
I dont have a scooter, but my powerchair costs me £62 per year and its with Lockton Insurance 0845 602 8000.
As with a lot of things, it may not be a legal requirement, but in case of an accident, makes sense to be covered.

Many thanks for the replies, I have contacted the DVLA for a tax disc.
I hope everyone is having an ok day in MS land?

Hello Lee and all.
On 8mph Scooters (Class 3) they like you to have tax disc if you are riding it on the road, with this you sould have a registation plate for the scooter. It’s more of a legal safety thing as few people have been knocked down by them. They like you to have it but it’s not compulsory, if you don’t drive on the roads and only at 4mph on the pavement then who cares? What are they going to do, put you in prison?

Both spcialise in it, the one mentioned above is also good. Breakdown Recovery insurance is good if you cannot push it. Tailor it to your needs, some things may be covered under your house insurance if you have it. So worth checking.

Hi , my road going scooter costs £65 a year to insure , that seems to be about the minimum they’ll charge , if you want extras like break down cover etc they have a scale of charges for that too ,
