Hi gang, my insurance on mob scooter is due for renewal and want to see what other people are paying. I’ve googled and some of them seem very cheap…one at £53 a year, but I’ll bet my boots that once you phone them the price will go up!
I’m currently paying £113.05 a year. It’s with Mark Bates Ltd.
That gives me £2 million liability cover. Accidental damage. Theft & vandalism. 24/7 breakdown recovery. 90 day worldwide cover.
I never go abroad & have never used breakdown service which I’ve been told would be a wait of up to an hour and a half.
Sadly I don’t use it nearly as much as I used to, not up to it, but I do want to be covered esp for theft & to pay compensation if I should accidentally hurt someone.
Would be interested to see what others are paying… OR do you think it’s even worth being insured?
I have my powerchair insured with Lockton and that was £59 this year, and have been with them for quite a few years now, and whilst I have never had to claim, I think it is worthwhile doing, as home insurance does not cover it.
I presume w/c and scooter would go side by side for pricing, can’t think it would be any difference.
Hope your doing ok, at least here in Gloucestershire the heavy rain has stopped, and whilst the news tells me it’s milder, my body doesn’t agree.
Hi, Pat I did take out an expensive insurance on my chair, this was partly because i was scared that on one of my Glasgow trips i would be left stranded, it was a company called Flux and they would transfer me home no matter how far away I was, and also it covered the hire of a wheelchair and a new chair if mine was stolen. I was actually allowed to use direct payments for this so it made sense. I’m not sure what i will do next time i think any repairs will be covered by the nhs for my new chair that is being ordered for me. Its funny because my current chair is that battered and overworked that its not worth much anyway.
Hi Pat l took out mine with bates 4 year now not had to use him but scooter is coverd for theft on house cover will look about next time l think its a mine field what ever we do take care Jan xxxx
I’m thinking about cover for my wheelchair as it has had “incidents” on two occasions. I must get it sorted before I go up to Liverpool for Christmas-or Chrimbo as the locals call it. Can you share your outcome? It would be very helpful.
Pat -do enquire about your scooter being covered on your home insurance. You do not have to have insurance - l have never insured my scooters - and thats about 28yrs of scootering now.
