I phoned the DVLA because today is my birthday & I have not heard anything from them since a letter saying that they thought, from information they had received, I needed adaptions in my car…I returned it saying that I didn’t…anyway…
When I made my way through the multitude on menu chioces, I spoke to a really nice young lady who informed me that because I replied that my GP had NOT recomended that I should not drive, there was a provision in law that allows me to drive while they conduct enquiries. She is also sending a letter to that effect.
Wish they had informed me, but at least I can still drive & I wanted to share with others who may also be having a panic.
Last year I had about 7 weeks’ delay while my GP was on holiday and the second request for information was still in his ‘in-tray’ (the receptionist never explained what happened to the first request!) Anyway, the DVLA did write to me twice to explain that I could still drive on an out of date licence until they had completed their enquiries. I must have been lucky 'cos that’s 2 out of 2 now when they have given me good service. My luck with them is bound to run out in the future …
