Hello, Ive had the usual three year driving licence thanks to MS, not a problem I though. After a holiday in October driving in France I sent the licence off to be renewed but since then I’ve had a letter to say they have ther licence but nothing since. Without it I can’t hire a car on holiday last month or rent one for using in the uk. Has anyone had any delays like this getting the licence back? I’m in touch with my consultants secretary who confirms they’ve not been in touch to confirm my ability to drive.
they don’t reply to the email requests for progress on two attempts nor respond to the consultants secretary’s inquirys. You can’t phone them because the medical team don’t take phone calls.
What should I do next?
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike.
I feel for you having to deal with the absolute shambles that is the DVLA. I know a chap that had to get his local MP involved before they would even admit and correct their errors. It might be worth trying that route.
I took myself off the road in 2023. I have no intention of ever driving again and even less intention of ever dealing with the DVLA.
Good luck mate
Jon.
Hi,
Had my licence renewed last year. If I remember times I sent it off 3 months before licence expiredc and I phoned them a month after irt expired as I’d still not had any update from them. All I got was I’ll get an update when I get an update and that I can legally continue driving in the mean time. I’d suggest asking DVLA to hget that in writing but I have no idea if they would do that or if a carhire place would accept it.

Funny you should say that. I’ve got the office of my mp involved. Will see what can be accomplished. I’d imagine this might be so thing the society could be involved with as it could count as a discrimination?

When I had DVLA delays I emailed the secretary of state for transports office direct. Can’t say it helped but my licence was back about 2 weeks later…

I’d keep chasing DVLA and ask your consultant’s office if they can send a fresh confirmation directly, as medical renewals can sometimes take much longer than expected. While looking into ways to stay on top of the process, I found LifeSaver phone number and liked that it offers guidance for account questions, technical assistance, setup support, warranty information, repair requests, and general service enquiries, so it’s a useful place to learn how companies handle customer communication and follow-ups. Staying persistent and keeping a record of every contact attempt may help move things forward.

So far. If taken 9 months they’ve asked for two pictures. Requested the same data twice from my Neuro. Promised three months ago it had been granted. They don’t take calls. You can’t email. The thing is an utter British mess of the first order. If this isn’t discrimination I don’t know what it is?

Mine took 8-9 months - I told DVLA about my MS diagnosis about the end of October 25, and just a few days ago finally had a letter explaining I’d be issued with a 3 year medical licence
