Is anyone else still waiting for their driving licence to be renewed? Mine’s up on Tuesday and still not had anything bank. Finally managed to speak to someone at the DVLA and they’re JUST going to write to my consultant. My form was posted back to them on the 31st January! I can’t drive after Tuesday UNLESS my GP says it’s OK…that’s another obstacle I’m having to climb. Just feeling angry and frustrasted as I have to drive to get to work!!!

The rules say you have to inform the DVLA of your diagnosis (which you’ve obviously done) but that you can continue to drive unless you’ve been told not to. Was it the DVLA who told you to ask your GP?

not so long ago! I think the DVLA are so far behind with processing driving licences, it could be weeks before it’s dealt with. Unless your GP or Neuro has specifically told you not to drive, then it is perfectly legal to do so if you have already applied for your new licence.
This is my 1st 3 year review. The DVLA have had my forms for almost 2 months and it took me weeks to actually get through - I couldn’t even get in the queue “We’re busy try later” then it cut me off. The man I eventually spoke to looked at my application and said we’ll now write to your consultant. It sounded like it had been sat there and no-one had done anything and now they were only writing because I’d called up. You can drive when you’re license expires BUT your GP MUST say you are OK to drive (it’s called Section 88) Called the docs, they won’t do anything without a form and the DVLA didn’t send me 1 for my docs this time. I could have a medical it the GP will charge me about £300 so go online and book 1 elsewhere as it would be cheaper. I called a company who said that they can’t do this as it has to be my GP as he knows my medical history (which obviously makes sense). They told me to dowload a D4 form for the GP to fill in. I’ve done that, went back to the docs but the person who deals woth that wasn’t in until Monday (I’d called up at lunchtime to say I would pop in after work, which I did, only to find no-one could help me). I’ve now got to go back on Monday morning and hope that they can sort it as my licence is up this Tuesday at midnight. Oh and they might charge me to fill it in!!! 
I can carry on driving BUT under Section 88 I HAVE to have my GP say it’s OK to drive. Will have to see what happens on Monday. So frustrating as i need to drive to be able to get to work 
I just feel very angry, frustrated and upset because I returned the forms the same day I received them (it wouldn’t let me complete my application on-line) and all of this is beyond my control yet I will be the one who unable to drive!!!
Well, the only way to gey a Dr to say I’m OK to carry on driving, is to pay for a D4 to be filled in and that takes an hour of his time BUT that’s private so I’ve got to pay!!! £150!!! Have no choice as the DVLA still havent sorted my new licence and I cant drive from midnight on Tuesday. I’m soooooooo angry . This is do unfair!!!
