work and DLA

Hi everyone,

I know this topic must be getting worrying or boring for others, but i am worried like hell.

I have indefinite DLA since 2004 from Secondary progressive MS.

There is so much that i can’t do and i do work i have my own salon, but most what i do is sit and look after it while others do the work, based on hiring beds, and chairs etc… i do photography and that’s portraits dont have to do really anything other clicking a button on the camera.

My husband gave up his work to care for me full time and i just needed to keep my business for finance and just for sanity, or else i will become totally useless in my own eyes.

I am sure the time is coming for them to check us all and my car is up for renewal and i’m just panicking and i wont have my freedom if i dont hve my car, as i can’t walk any great distance.

So can anyone tell me if they check if your working or not and if they can stop your claim if you are working ?

Hi there, I work 19 hours a week and get standard care and standard mobility pip. It’s a godsend as I could reduce my hours and not do any overtime. I only got it for 3 years, though and that is up next year. I’m also SP.

Hi Niyra,

DLA; personal independence payment (PIP) and attendance allowance are payable whether or not you are working. They are not means tested, so earnings do not affect the amount of your benefit.

hi ,

Thank you for replying to me, yes i know that its not means tested but i was thinking if they asked what one did they would say if you can work then you dont have any problems, which i do but i am a photographer but dont really need to move about much.

Tell them exactly that; don’t say you put rollers; blow wave or cut peoples hair because you don’t so it has nothing to do with it. Just stick to clicking a camera.

hi ,

Thank you, i just hope they don’t ask anything about my work, i have a salon and photography studio, but do have others that come in and work just that i do the photography.

Let hope they are not to concern .

I am totally petrified really :frowning:
