Hi everyone, I’m new here but have been following the Forum for quite some time. I was DX in 2000 so have had this condition for quite a while now but it seems to have been deteriorating in the last twelve months. I am still working full time (5 days a week, 8 hours a day) but it’s getting a bit of a struggle now. I have a great medical support network but am seriously trying to stay away from taking any prescribed drugs. I’m very lucky that at present I get no (or very little) pain but my mobility is becoming rubbish (I move slower than a snail). Because it seems to be deteriorating I am getting very down about the whole thing, it comes and goes probably like most of us, but feel like I’m sinking now and don’t know what to do about it. My occupational Therapist told me I would not be entitled to any benefits but I would like to cut my hours down if I could but unfortunately if I’m not entitled to any help I’ll have to try and carry on. Sorry if this is all a bit patchy, but its my first time!!
Hi and welcome to the forum.
it does sound good that you`ve been able to continue working full time. But as you are now slowing down and feeling anxious about your future working life, perhaps it is time to take stock.
I am a bit surprised that your OT is giving benefits advice. As fantastic as my OTs have been (and they really are the best thing ever) I wouldn`t be relying on their knowledge of benefits.
Are you aware that it is possible to be receiving DLA whilst working? The criteria for this includes mobility issues and personal care. you can claim the mobility part only.
Get yourself a claim pack and see what you think. You could also look up DLA on line.
