Feeling glum. Think a nice shopping trip might be needed! Got dx with MS nearly two years ago. Last year I developed an under active thyroid (another pill to add to my list) and yesterday at the cardiologists was told something had occurred on my 24 hour heart monitor. He thinks it could possibly be ‘inappropriate sinus tachycardia’ which is a heart arrithmia problem and can become debilitating (might be a race with the MS there! Lol…well you gotta laugh hey?) or (and less likely as very rare) a heart tumour for which I need another test for each before a dx. So got beta blockers to add to my pill pot! Has anyone else had this dx with MS? Seem to be collecting conditions! Has anyone else collected other life long ailments since dx with MS? Trying to stay bouncy : ) Mish x

Malignant hypertension - I’m on 4 pills for this now, including the beta blocker. Without them, I’d have died years ago.
I have had a hypothyroid for years and it’s well-treated now. I think the Rebif helped me receive the long-awaited treatment and when I came back to the UK from Asia, discovered that I qualified for free prescriptions.
My neuro reckons the hypertension is either from MS or a rarer condition called pheochromocytoma, but as the MS symptoms arrived at the same time as the hypertension 260/160 at its worst) I reckon it’s from the MS.
Oh and I have crippled knees thanks directly to MS as the pain symptoms didn’t reach my brain and now I can’t bend them much and my right knee has no cartilage. Thanks MS!
I hope your heart condition gets sorted and treated soon.
MS sucks.
Hi there, I have lupus, fibromyelgia and polycystic overy syndrome as well as MS, love Bex xxx
Hi Gosh not alone in collecting other conditions then. Sorry to hear you guys have other things to content with too. I don’t know too much about some of the other conditions mentioned, although I did look up some. My sister in law has fibromyalgia so I know that one is very painful. I wondered as MS was an autoimmune disease whether there was any relation to being prone to other things. My hypothyroid condition started after I had been on Rebif so not sure if that helped trigger it. I know it is one of the blood tests they do a check on when taking it. Well fingers crossed we have our quota now hey? Mish x
Oops not content…contend.
Hi, I started with vitiligo about 8 yrs ago, ms started 4 yrs ago with dx last nov also underactive thyroid picked up on last June, been on levothyroxine 25 and now upped to 50. I hit 50yrs old last year, never again I say Sue x
Hi Yes I am on 50 levothyroxine too and hit 50 years old next year! I don’t know… what with injections and pills to make us shake rattle and roll should be a good party…if I can find the energy. What with the ms fatigue, thyroid fatigue and possible heart fatigue now, I’ll be lucky to be awake for it! Lol Mish x
Uggh, I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure since being told I had MS ( all within 3 years )…From healthy to falling apart in 3 easy steps :-((
MS and autonomic nervous system problem with hands (resolving slowly). I do have quite high blood pressure sometimes but not all the time.
Only Type 1 diabetes and Hypo or Hyper thyroidism and MS is part of the same auto immune problems, type 2 and high blood pressure is down to the usual bad diet and lack of exercise (being over weight etc)
If your not over weight and have high blood pressure then see GP as thats something else not MS related.
Thyriod nodule. Had a neck scan on Friday just gone, he told me the results straight after. They are going to scan it yearly and I will have other tests for thyroid soon.
So it seems from our comments to this thread thyroid problems are fairly common in those with MS.
Epilepsy
Yes thyroid problems do seem to be quite common. On the bright side if you gonna get anything else it could be worse, as at least you quality for free prescriptions! Mind you could do without anything else going wrong! Sorry to hear so many others have collected other life long conditions. : ( Hugs all around Mish xx
