Good morning , I was hoping for some advice, lately not every day but quite often I’ve had an awful sensation/ feeling in my legs. It’s an effort walking I’m really having to think about it as my legs feel like they’re not going to carry me , they feel like they’re not going to work !! I feel so silly saying it as when I mentioned it to a couple of people they looked at me like I was mad !! Maybe I am , think most of us have been driven mad with ms. So I thought what better place is there to ask, I have spasms, sensory pain , numbness pins & needles etc but it isn’t any of them it’s completely different. I’d really appreciate any thoughts on this, Thanks Margaret x
Hi Margaret,
With apologies to anyone in Norfolk, remember the story that some GPs were endorsing patients’ records with the letters: “NFN”, meaning: “Normal for Norfolk”?
Well, there should also be a “NFMS”, meaning “Normal for MS”. So obviously, no, it’s not “normal”, but in practice very normal to those of us with MS. It’s not surprising people who don’t have MS won’t know what you’re talking about, as it’s not easy for them to understand things they’ve never had.
I assume it’s not a doctor who reacted as if you were mad? If it was, then perhaps you need a different doctor. If it’s anyone else, then just take no notice, as trying to explain an MS symptom they’ve never had is a bit like trying to describe a colour that doesn’t exist: they won’t get it, but it’s not really their fault.

Hi Margaret,
Weird legs says it all. I know what you mean - sometimes I really have to concentrate to walk, other times it’s
normal. It’s when things are normal that you don’t notice (if you know what I mean).
Mention it to Dr. or MS nurse

Hi I know how you all feel, my legs are so strange and very painful, stiff and ache 24/7. When I have been sat for a while or may have walked too far, I end up struggling to walk and shuffle instead!!!
Even now both legs ache and buzz, and I also get some heel pain.

I know where your coming from Hun. I too suffer with weird sensations on my legs and it use to keep me awake at night but the only way I could describe it was a weird shock sensation running down my legs sometimes it was like a tingling buzzing sensation. At first it was just my righty leg but then my left started to get it. And on different parts of my body now I can get numbness and pins and needles that last for days or weeks. I thought it was all in my head and I was just being stupid but when I spoke to my MS nurse she said it was normal and I’m now on Gabapentin which helps with my restless legs at night.
Hi Kim, Yes I have seen a neuro and to be honest I was not impressed. I have had sypmtoms that mimic MS since last yr. I had MRI in August it can back with high signal changes, this is due to Basilar Migraine. Neuro said my symptoms dont match my clinical examination, she thought I was anxious!!! They love that word dont they…
So ENT consultant said this rare migraine was the cause of how I am feeling, but could not tell me why my legs and arms ache so much…Still not sure where or what is really wrong…
At GP 2moro, and I need her to listern to me…
