Wav cars and wheelchair headrests

Hi all my hubby is getting a WAV car and will be in his manual wheelchair as a passenger. Shouldn’t he have a headrest of some kind

Sorry I had to bump this up I was just wondering whether not having a headrest for wheelchair users was safe.

Hi, I ordered a power chair through Motability recently, and was told if I took it in a taxi I’d need a headrest. Assume it applies to all vehicles. It’s arriving on Friday! Yay! Heather

Hi, is it a motability car? If so then youd think they would know, eh? Ill see if I can find the answer via google for you.

Me again. Yeh, I looked on 2 sites and they said a wheelchair user shoud have a head restraint when travelling in a vehicle. Just checked my wheeelie and it doesnt have holes for a headrest, so does that exempt me from the rule I wonder?

Anyone know?

I was told that I needed a headrest if I was going to travel in my powerchair to prevent whiplash if there was an accident.

It was supplied by wheelchair services and fits onto the handles of the chair. There are a wide variety of headrests for manual chairs.

Poll – the headrest would fit to the handlebars so there wouldn’t be any holes. Ask wheelchair services. They will supply and fit. You really should have one. I find that I use mine a lot when traveling to keep my head steady.

Thanks everyone I will have to contact wheelchair services
