walking sticks??

got my first walking stick last week, the free wooden one from the physio. wouldn’t be without it now but i don’t like the way it look’s… an old man’s stick when i’m 37!! been looking in the chemist and was wondering which type??

the standard style you can use with either hand or the sort of palm rest handle which is left or right handed???

i liked the second of those the best but i don’t like the idea you can’t change hands and i only walked 3 paces with each in the shop! i like the look of the standard one’s more but the palm rest type are more comfortable in my hand!!

please share your experience with me as i’m confused.com!!

many thanks

Ben

You could get an awesome rock and roll one. I bet if you went online you could find one that Ozzy would have, thinking, black with a silver skull. Or you could go for a rastafarian staff. Around Brixton you see guys with the most amazing carved ones. They are awesome. I am thinking of going down the same avenue. I am a fashionista so I haven’t yet succumed but really need to.

You could check out the switchsticks.com site, I get all my sticks from there - a girl has to co-ordinate! Don’t worry they do manly designs too!

I have been using a stick for few years now. I have found that I have tended to like the trekking style sticks (poles) that are probably sold by various outdoor equipment suppliers. Some of them are meant to be used as a single stick. These ones usually have more traditionally shaped handles, there are sprung versions that have a bit of give in them. Other people have commented that they would find this type of stick a bit flimsy. One handy thing is that they are adjustable for length.

I tried a ‘normal’ stick with an ergonomic handle which I found made my hand ache. Its a very induvidual thing though what suits one person wont work for another.

I would advise trying out as many as possible before buying because there are suprising differences.
