Hello, I am hoping that someone can tell me if Brian Fog may be what I have been experiencing over the past few weeks.
I have been waking up in the middle of the night wondering where I am and how I’m going to get back home, when I am at home in my own bed. I was in hospital for two weeks in September because I’d had a relapse, while I was here I was being treated for a Urinary Tract Infection which still hasn’t cleared up, I’m taking more antibacterial medication again, I’ve lost count of how many courses I’ve had. Does anyone know if the infection could be a cause of what I’ve losing my memory and feeling lost and confused? Luckily my memory has come back after a short while.
Thank you for any replies I may receive,
Jacqueline.
That’s a very unpleasant sensation/experience - and yes, UTI’s and sometimes the antibiotics used to clear them up can cause a bit of confusion - been there, done that, got the t-shirt! Have you let the MS Nurse know? That would be a good starting point as they may be able to help with a different antibiotic, or other advice. In the meantime, have a notepad by the bed - write on it. I am at home, in my own bed - the confusion is a side effect of the uti/meds, I’m going to be OK - that way, when you wake up confused, you can read the note to yourself and it can help with any anxiety the confusion has caused.
Hope the UTI gets cleared up soon - they are miserable things to have.
Hello, Dmannose can help get rid of the UTI along with your antibiotics. I had one a few years ago that wouldn’t go even with the right antibiotics and I took Dmannose and it finally went. It’s a sugar that binds with the bad bacteria and you flush it out.
I hope you feel better soon. UTIs are awful and any sort of infection can have an effect on your memory and leave you confused. But also keep your MS nurse updated and check in with them and your GP regularly until it’s passed.
That’s a relief to know that the antibiotics can cause what I’ve been experiencing, now I know, I’ll tell my MS Nurse and hope between her and my GP a different antibiotic could be prescribed. That’s a good idea to have a notepad beside my bed,
