Waiting list for a neurologist

Hey everyone, I’m just wondering if this is normal..I have had a brain MRI showing multiple lesions in the 3 areas associated with MS, I’ve also had a positive lumbar puncture. I’ve been told it is “suggestive of MS” but have not have a neurologist appointment yet so cannot be officially diagnosed. I had a call today to tell me that the average wait time is 20 weeks for first neurologist appointment, I’ve been on the waiting list for 3. It seems such a long time when they are pretty sure I have it and then I believe it’s a further 25 weeks for a subsequent treatment. I’d just like to get this started for obvious reasons. Thanks for any info

Hi Samantha - welcome aboard mate :waving_hand:

Yes, a lot of this is a waiting game. I know it’s not ideal when you’re on the recieving end but, they will get to you sooner or later.

The fact that you were on 3 waiting lists is a good sign that they see some urgency for you. My consultant deals with all sorts, not just MS so, if yours is the same, they probably have a fair bit to work through. Your appointment will probably be an examination and a chat then, they’ll have to discuss it all in a multi disciplinary team meeting to be 100% sure of a diagnosis before they formally inform you. It will take more time but, it’s a good thing. In the meantime time, try to relax and learn what you can about the bits that you already know are definitely happening.

All the best mate x

Jon.

Sorry to hear about your wait. Unfortunately long waits do seem to be part of the process.

Easier said than done but try not to think about too hard on the week numbers… it may shrink or grow depending. Best to focus on yourself and try to find some happy distractions in between.

Hope you get your appointment date soon!!
