is it or isnt it?

Hi

I have symptoms that could be blamed on MS. I have had 2 MRI’s, the one of my brain showed a number of lesions. A doctor suggested that it could be MS and then refered me to a neurologist. After speaking to my GP i know that the neurologist has seen the MRI and MS is possible. Now I am waiting on a long waiting list to see the neurologist. I’m so frustrated, very tired and unable to work due to symptoms. I just want to know whether or not I have MS and then whether I can be given any treatment.

Hi Vic… oh I just wish we could answer your question!!! It is simply not possible. I’m sorry to say that you have to play the waiting game.

I know how frustrating it can be but there is simply no other way.

You could go and see GP again and ask if there is any way they can get an appointment sooner. It’s worth a try.

In meantime, try and rest as much as you can. Come on here for support and advice. Remember that anxiety can make all of these symptoms worse so try to stay calm as possible… but believe me I know how hard that is.

It might be MS as you have been told… IF it is, it’s not the end of the world. A big change in your life yes, but not the end of your life. And as you say, there are treatments that can help.

Hope you get the appointment soon… have a chat with GP and see if they can hurry it along a bit.

Take care,

Pat x

thank you Pat, its really nice that people are happy to chat here.

Hi - I can relate to how you feel. Have you been given any idea of how long the waiting list is? I know how easy it is to say stay positive but reality can be a different matter. Use the support of this forum when you need to. Hope you have answers (or even a date) soon. Xx

Thank you Popsy, i have no idea of how long unfortunately!

Vic

Not alot I can say to make you feel better but just know my thoughts are with you. I hope you get seen by someone soon x

Sheesh - that’s hard not even to have a ball park figure. I think in London it’s around 4 - 6 weeks. Hang in there and keep us posted x

thank you everyone.

Hello

Not sure if it helps, but our wait down here was many weeks so I asked for a private referral - then straight after my first appointment transferred back to the NHS and then had an MRI pretty swiftly afterwards.

The cost seems to vary (£125-200) which seems a lot but was worth every penny.

Good luck x

Thanks Ali, will be worth enquiring.
