Voice activated emergency alarm

hello, I am a friend of a person who has MS and is bed bound from when the careers come to put her to bed at seven, and has no control over legs, and little over hands. She is also experiencing a verbally abusive husband and feels she needs to have an alarm that can be voice activated to get outside help. Can anyone recommend one?

also, the careers (who are fabulous) say they can’t come any later than 7 but this means she is isolated and can’t go out in the evening to have a more normal life. Can carers be scheduled later? Who can I contact to arrange for the carers to come later a couple of days a week?

any help is so appreciated,

Hi,

You could contact Social Services who if needed will point you in the right direction. Hope this helps.

Hello,

My local authority has provided me with an alarm that can be activated with a wristband button.

When activated I can speak to the call-centre from anywhere in the room.

Can your friend use a button the size of a man’s thumb?

Best wishes,

John

Thanks so much! Uncontrollable hand and arms make it difficult to locate anything, especially in an emergency. Thanks for your suggestion though. Much appreciated.

Jill

I would add is there a possibility of a little respite help being organised, either officially or unofficially, for either your friend or her husband, or both? It sounds like they both could do with a little space, even for a short few hours outside. Cabin fever has an adverse affect on anyone.

Oh wow. Unbelievable is right. This sounds like it could get very nasty.

Without doubt “unreasonable behaviour”. Time for some legal advice for your friend I would think. Can she manage this discreetly, when she’s out to work one day?

Adult social care should be able help but be aware as a "vulnerable " person they may choose to view it as safeguarding , I say choose as not everyone gets it right but I would expect my teams to raise it as such. This could work in her favour but it will feel intrusive …The police are the others who can assist with alarms .
