i had a relapse at the beginning of november and was given iv steroids. Also it was found out on the 6th ddecember my vitamin d was low so was given 60,000 iu weekly.I don’t usually suffer from spots but seem to be getting them, also at present have a bad cold.Has the steroids or vitamin d have anything to do with this.As anyone experienced this after taking vit d or steroids, what can i do.
Hi there, I think spots are a fairly common side-effect of steroids. Steroids may also make you more vulnerable to infection, but having said that, it’s hardly unusual to have a cold this time of year anyway, so it might be just coincidence. I’ve had a real stinker since Boxing Day. I’m pretty sure the vitamin D is unconnected with either problem. Tina
I believe that “steroid acne” during prednisolone treatment is fairly common
It’s caused (roughly) because the steroids dampen down your immune system, so your immune system struggles to fight off any bacteria under the skin.
There are probably lotions and potions for dealing with this, but I’d recommend the good ol’ natural approach of getting healthy: drink plenty of water/fruit juice, eat fresh fruit & veg (particularly dark green leafy veg and dark red/blue fruits) with plain grilled/steamed fish or low fat white meat and wholewheat pasta / potatoes, etc., and get plenty of rest.
Sorry you’re suffering from spots and a cold on top of your relapse, and hope you are better soon.
