Virus / flu

Hi folks,

I had my flu jab (and COVID, shingles and pneumonia) a month or so ago, but I’ve been struck down the last few days by a horrible virus. I saw the out of hours GP last night and he said that it might be flu, as that is going round in our area, or it could be another kind of virus.

It’s really knocked me for six!

I am due to start Kesimpta treatment soon. I’ve got it in the fridge waiting, just need the nurse to come and see me to show me what to do with it.

But I don’t think they will do that until I am recovered from this virus.

I had flu once before when I was about 20 and very fit and healthy, and it was worse than this, which makes me wonder if this might not be flu. But maybe it is, and it’s not as bad because I’ve had the vaccine?

I am worried it might set off a relapse, as I have read on the forum that illnesses can make people have a relapse.

Sorry, I’m waffling

I guess I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on the impact of having MS on how we pick up viruses and how they affect us.

Thank you

Alison

I can’t say anything about it Alison because I’ve no experience of it. So I’ll just send you a virtual hug and wish you well as quickly as possible.

Thanks Freshairman,

Hug appreciated

I’m feeling a little better tonight - I suspect the steroid tablets I started this morning are beginning to help.

I definitely feel a bit less foggy, which is good.

Wishing you well

I am sorry you’ve picked up a horrid bug whatever it is. I have had MS for a long time and in the early years I probably got fewer bugs than most people – that has changed now but that is more than likely because I’m getting older and my immune system is getting less vigilant and there’s less energy in the tank to deal with illness when it does come. What I can say is that being on an effective DMD has (I would guess) protected me from relapses even when I’ve been quite poorly with chest infections of whatever. That’s not much good to you tight now I know. But with luck the fact that you’re young (by my standards, anyway!) and strong will help you get through this without stirring your MS up. And fingers crossed when you do get started on your DMD that will really help you stay well.

Thank you Alison, that’s really reassuring. I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my waffling and worries!

I will hopefully start the Kesimpta soon. I’m feeling a little brighter today after a slow start. I think the steroids must be kicking in a bit.

There’s a saying.. certainly a song. “Young at Heart” been released by several artists..Frank Sinatra.. the Bluebells and even Bananarama! It was first released in 1953. Not my era. Perhaps others here @alison100 :face_with_hand_over_mouth:
