Hello,
I’m newley diagnosed and have been offered a flu vaccination by my GP. I’m due to have it tomorrow but I’m having second thoughts. I haven’t had my appointment with the MS nurse yet, so can’t ask if this is okay? Do most MS’rs have the jab? I’m hoping it wont cause a relapse.
Thanks
I do, every year and also have my Covid jabs and boosters. Going on the basis that infections of any sort is generally bad for those with MS as they fire up the immune system
I can completely relate to your comment. Last week I got my flu vaccine with “I have MS now” in the back of my mind. What will this mean for me? Will I be ok after my flu vaccine? Unfortunately having a healthcare background and being a self proclaimed control freak comes with its own drawbacks!! Hopefully you don’t get any side effects x
It’s generally safe for people with MS to get the flu jab, but it’s always best to confirm with your healthcare provider. Many with MS do get vaccinated to avoid complications from the flu.
I get the flu jab. It’s a bit of a hurdle to get over, finding that one is now officially regarded as being in the ‘sick, old, halt and lame’ category, but there it is. Not a good look, maybe, but having flu is a worse one. Bad infections are definitely best avoided with MS because they really can stir things up in my experience.
Hi there,
Yep the flu jab is worth getting, it’s no harm, also the rsv (if you’re eligible) and covid jabs are a good idea; I caught parainfluenza this June and covid again this August.
Even if you do catch the actual viruses, the symptoms might not be as severe.

I’ve recently had the Covid jab and my fatigue has been worse than normal and pain in my legs and feet but I would have it again if offered it.
I was fine after my Flu , Pneumonia , and Shingles jabs.
I had a friend who sadly died recently who had Pneumonia and caught sepsis.
She was only 60 and had no other health conditions we are aware of.
Better to be safe than sorry.
