Hi all, I just wondered if anyone has had this flu like virus that is going around. I say flu like because all the people I know who’ve had it, had a flu jab. It’s the usual, aches and pains, high fever, but no real cold symptoms, but a chesty cough? Everyone in the house has had it, and I came down with it yesterday. It’s seems to be making my spasms and tremors worse - is this normal? Has it lasted any longer than normal, for you? Most people manage to shake off the worst of it by the end of a week. Just wondering what to expect. Thank you all AmieLouise
Hi AmieLouise Yes we’ve all got the dread lurgy here too and my symptoms are always worse when infected with cold/flu my MS nurse once told me that this is known as a pseudo relapse. I couldn’t get out of bed yesterday as it was that bad I’m now three days in and starting to feel slightly better, but my symptoms of the ms are always there, I’m SP Rest as much as you can and make sure you drink plenty fluids Take care x
Glad to hear you’re starting to turn the corner, thank you for replying
Don’t forget you are eligable for a Flu Jab; you do not want to get that!
I don’t have an MS DX awaiting appointment with neurologist. My Diagnosis is Chronic Fatigue syndrome and Chronic pain syndrome and Fibromyalgia. They told me I don’t qualify for a jab oh well. In bed I stay, I’m lucky to have such lovely people prepared to care for me.
Yes unfortunately I came down with bronchitis for a couple of weeks that the doctor wouldn’t give me anything for then the week before Christmas it had gotten much worse, just generally unwell, high temp, hurting to breathe and cough etc. went back to the doctor who said it had turned into mild pneumonia gave me lung steroids and antibiotics also asthma pump that I’ve not needed since I was much younger. I felt bad for about 8 days and have felt completely drained since and have been having lots of pyjama days, it also made others have to help over Christmas as they still all came here! 10 Christmas Day 14 Boxing Day! I had my flu jab in October and can only imagine how much worse I would have been without it! My chest is now much better but my legs have felt a little wobbly the last couple of days so hoping that a relapse isn’t going to be triggered. Hope you are feeling better, try night nurse it really helped me to sleep x
That’s a lot of guests! Kudos! Well it is following the same pattern as my partner, getting worse before it (hopefully) gets better. I’m keeping an eye on my lungs (you know what I mean) as I have coughed up a little mucus (just the once) I’m quite paranoid about my lungs because I had pleurisy once, and I don’t want it again! Glad to hear you are on the mend, hope you feel properly better soon. Many thanks all AmieLouise
Yes. I had the flue jab but I went down with what was just like flu but without the aching limbs. I had a high temperature, sore throat and persistent headaches for couple days. It lasted a week and definitely made my MS symptoms worse - mainly, my leg which didn’t work so well. I hope yours clears up soon. Rest, rest and rest! And drink plenty. R
Hi AmieLouise,
As far as I’m aware, the flu jab will only protect against certain strains of flu, so it is possible to that they have had the flu, just a different strain.
I don’t often catch colds (benefit of an overactive immuns system possibly?) but when I do it knocks me for six. I had one last month and every time I thought it was gone it came back again.
So in answer to your question, yes, it can make symptoms worse and take longer to get over. As everyone’s said, lots of rest and I hope you feel better soon.
Mags xx
My other half has this virus at the moment and Im on day 10 of a cold but iv started coughing today and think Im getting this stupid virus. If this is the case I will be having strong words with him for passing his germs on as Im back at work tomorrow and dont want them thinking im skiving to get a longer xmas holiday. Sam x
Oh dear Sam. I hope you didn’t go in today? Please look after yourself hun. Better to have a few days off now than more time later if it aggravates your symptoms. Plus if you do have it you’ll be spreading it around. I’m sure you won’t be the only one off with a lurgy.
Mags xx
Thanks Mags but I managed to soldier on. Didnt think a day off would be the best start to the new year. Plus i think iv managed to escape the dreaded virus (you watch il wake up with it saturday morning haha) but still have the end of this cold. So far a lucky escape I think xx
