i’ve just been diagnosed, confirmed 26th nov. i have alway’s been a fairly heavy drinker so was putting my fuzzy head down to that but after cutting down on alcahol and still feeling fuzzy i saw a Dr! i have read a lot about ms but 1 question that remains to be answered is are we more prone to other infections?? i’ve ‘googled’ it and got a million different answers so any help gratefully accepted
Hello and welcome Ben
Afraid I have absolutely no idea! I don’t seem to get colds as often as other people, but I used to get loads of chest and sinus infections (which I think are more common in MSers than non-MSers). But that’s just me, and we are all so different. The extra immune system activity that happens in MS is pretty specific to the nervous system so I’m not sure how much it actually influences the rest of our bodies. I’d guess not a lot. That’s why it’s really important to have things like the flu vaccine - flu is often very bad news for MS Anything that can raise the core body temperature can play havoc with our systems - so viruses and infections can cause “pseudo-relapses” or even real ones.
Sorry I can’t give you a straight answer!
