Hi,
About 3 weeks ago I had a Brain and Cervical MRI. After they finished with the brain scan, the technologist came in to said ‘it was really important I stayed completely still for the next bit, not to even swallow’. Well, this of course made me salivate even more! Anyway, after it was finished, I was told I wasn’t allowed to leave. The technologist phoned the radiologist and told me that they “accidentally found something” (precise wording) and that I had to go back in to have a thoracic an lumbar MRI scan. As he was talking to me I noticed 3 bright white circular areas on my brain scan (lesions??) . Of course all this freaked me out. Then when I was finished with the next lot he said “under these situations you won’t be waiting long for results. If you haven’t heard in 2-3 days you need to chase this up”.
Well, I haven’t heard, and I have been chasing every day (of course). The consultant neurologist was supposed to be reviewing my scans last week, but I now have been told it will be this Friday.
I’m tempted to put in a complaint, as of course this has created huge amount of stress and made my symptoms worse.
The MRI was to rule out any demyelination. I have tingling, shooting pains, dizziness, tight chest, weakness, numbness, tinnitus, etc.
I just wanted to hear other people’s opinions on this. My mum is freaking out and is trying to find me a private consultant, but the waiting times are really long even on private!
Thanks.
Never heard of the person doing the scan say anything about the scan. All mine have gone off to the consultant to review. I didn’t think the technologist were trained to review them.
I’ve been told off for swallowing, too. Also breathing.
I’m surprised to hear of a radiographer offering an opinion on any aspect of interpretation - that is not something they usually do - much as I have wished they would, sometimes!
Once heard the two radiologists saying he’s actually still working? Then the asked me if anyone was picking me up like I was a child…No my wife works in the hospital so I’m waiting on her finishing then I’m running her home! Couple of weeks later my work life changed forever. So I think they know when they see things
No question. But they should be keeping their thoughts within the clinical team, I think.
Goodness. That’s really unprofessional! I’m sure the technologists have ideas of things, they look at the scans day in day out. I’m just annoyed that he said this should be looked at quickly, but it hasn’t…
Ha, as if you were told not to breathe! Yes, I was surprised - I didn’t ask. I thought I would just be given the whole ‘you’ll hear in x number of weeks’, but what he said was super worrying. I’ve just found out that the radiologist has done their report, but I can’t see it nor can they send it on to my gp!? I’m getting so frustrated. But I suppose if they found anything really nasty I would hear ASAP, right!?
They dont normally rush wirh MS results.
