Travelling round London - Oyster card question

I am going off to London for a bit of “me time” this weekend. All on my lonesome but going to meet up with friends and family so really looking forward to it (although husband is getting a bit worried about how I will cope on my own - makes me wonder how I managed in the 38 years before I met him )

I haven’t lived in London for a couple of years now and post diagnosis I hardly ever went into central London as I drove to work in the suburbs so I am a bit rusty on travelling on the tube etc. I have found my old Oyster Card and there is some PAYG credit on it (whoopee!!!) but I will have to top it up over the weekend and I am always on the look out to save a bit of cash.

As I live in Wales now, any entitlement to discretionary travel (my bus pass etc) only applies in the Principality not elsewhere in the UK. I do have a Disabled Person’s Rail Card but obviously this is only good for “British Rail” or whatever it is called this week.

As a person with a disabilty (I get higher rate DLA - mobility) is there any way in which I qualify for any reduction in my tube and bus fares in London?

I think that the answer is going to be NO! but, as my Mum always said, “Them’s that don’t ask, don’t get!”

Hi

I think you only get free travel if you live in a London borough. I recently moved to Essex and had to give back,

I drive the busses, as far as im aware the yellow freedom passes work across the, go on the tfl website and have a look at the disabled oyster cards.

Thanks for the advice peeps.

As I do not live in a London borough any more I do not qualify for a Freedom Pass. They are really great - probably the best concessionary pass in the UK and anyone who does live in London asnd qualifies should apply. The only problem is that each borough has its own eligibility criteria so it is a bit of a postcode lottery.

HOWEVER, it looks like as I am a Disabled Railcard holder, I can register this on my Oyster and I am entitled to a discount on my Oyster PAYG fares - including the daily cap on fares. I don’t think that I would have found this out if I hadn’t posted on here (it wasn’t clear on the TFL Oyster site when I looked last night but advice from here and from Mr Google has really paid off - only a couple of quid but really worth doing)

Happy days. London here I come!!!

I can use my Hampshire Bus Pass on London Buses.
