I am going to NZ (via Dubai) next month on holiday.
I am on Avonex PEN but will move to BIO-SET whilst abroad.
My medication is delivered to my home adress by Healthcare @ Home.
My neurologist no longer writes letters as H@H does a letter to show to airport staff (signed by a pharmacist).
My GP is not involved in treating my MS, if I have any questions/ issues/flare ups I go directly to my MS nurse.
My main worry is the authorities at Dubai and Auckland airports, are they going to accept this letter from H@H? (everything requests a letter from neurologist/doctor), I’ve travelled within UK and to Europe and this has never been an issue.
If anyone could help I’d be most grateful as I’m having pre-trip jitters!
I would suggest you contact the airline you are travelling with and double check with them. I know that for travelling from a UK airport the guidance for essential medical equipment states “supporting documentation from a relevant medical professional (eg a letter from your doctor or a copy of your prescription)” and presumably this is covered by Healthcare @ Home as they deliver your prescriptions.
Personally, I would’ve thought they know that their clients travel worldwide so their letters must be accepted but it would be worth checking just for peace of mind.
I always get a letter from my MS nurse when I go abroad. It states what my condition is, why I am travelling with the meds and syringes and why it needs to be in my cabin luggage. It also has the contact details of the hospital neurology team for any queries. I have travelled a few times now and not once have I been asked for it at the airport. I always tell the check in staff and staff at X Ray security I have medical syringes and there has never been any problem-but it is good to have the letter just in case.
I’m sure the letter from Healthcare@Home would be ok but just call your MS nurse and ask her to send you one too-I’m sure they have a standard letter she can add your details in and print off and post to you.
Enjoy your trip to NZ me and my hubbie are hoping to go in 2 years to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary
