Whilst i am disinclined to suggest that it is something we are ‘entitled’ to, i feel it would be at least courteous to explain the reasoning behind why a thread is locked, preventing further contribution.
Having said this, i am grateful that such are usually not deleted entirely, leaving any links and substance to be enjoyed by the audience such was intended for.
This forum is a public space and we want threads/discussions to adhere to our house rules, which we feel helps to create a friendly and valuable space for everyone to enjoy - if we feel that this may be compromised we may decide to lock a thread.
That this is a public forum (and one which is branded by an organisation which needs to maintain an appropriate image) goes without saying.
What i had hoped might be possible, is an explanation for which ‘house rule’ had been breached on certain occasions, as such assessments are entirely subjective and thus not always apparent.
I am not suggesting a lengthy essay of justification; just a one or two word clue as to the offence caused would suffice.
Paolo, if there was a particular thread or topic you were referring to in particular, can you please private message me, and I’ll be happy to explain why we deemed it necessary to lock it.
As I am a transgressor (see my locked thread ‘A Joint approach to Cannabis’) I have written to Oliver seeking an explanation for the reasoning behind locking the topic. I raised the issues to generate an adult discussion on matters which directly affect MS sufferers.
For information, I did raise both the subjects in my thread directly with the MS Society requesting that they investigate and perhaps publish an MS Society response to these latest developments. There is already a 38 degrees petition on the subject of the CBD licensing issue.
I will happily share the replies on the Forum, once received.
Paolo, I don’t work for a living any more. I therefore have lots of time to amuse myself with ‘how-many-angels-on-a-pinhead’ on-line debates on whether this or that post may or may not have transgressed this or that Forum rule.
However, the MS Society staffers who have formal responsibility for running the thing on a shoe-string and keeping it squeaky-clean (with some wonderful volunteer moderator help) do not have that luxury. They are, I am sure, very busy people with much ground to cover and not enough hands to do it. In other words, they have jobs to do, and providing this excellent resource is part of it, but this is our hobby, not theirs. Let’s do our bit by not making extra work if we can help it.
Nothing which you have said, comes as news to me. I am profoundly grateful for those who thanklessly toil behind the scenes of this excellent online community. I also welcome the opportunity to reiterate:
I am not suggesting a lengthy essay of justification; just a one or two word clue as to the offence caused…
This thread was motivated by the thread initiated by Alun. I am aware of the nature of these pages and I am therefore fairly confident of my grasp as to what might constitute a topic being locked down or deleted. Nothing in Alun’s offering suggested a cause for censorship. And so rather than ‘beat my chest and bellow’ in protest to this single incident, i merely hoped to suggest an on going strategy that might help to ensure we all learn from each locked thread incident, instead of being inclined to object to it.
In any event, Alun’s topic has since been unlocked and hopefully this thread has given some food for thought, for what its worth to us hobbyists
Paolo, you stirring again !!! No fighting dudes, you guys are on my top five list !! (Hopefully they didn’t offend any righteous precious types on here)
