Does anyone else bite down hard on their tongue in their sleep.
Hi there, yes been diagnosed since 2001. I wake up doing this as well.
Hi. I chew the sides of my tongue in my sleep and it can be very painful eating. I went to the dentist who was quite shocked at the state of my poor tongue and has provided me with a mouth guard to sleep with.
They are commonly used in people who grind their teeth in their sleep which I do. With the risk of choking higher due to ms my plate covers my top teeth rather than the lower jaw.
They take a bit of getting used to but you have to decide whether you can cope with a mascerated tongu or a few nights getting used to it.

I phoned my MS nurse for advice about how to prevent biting my tongue in my sleep. I wake with my tongue clenched between my teeth. This causes quite bad pain across my tongue. The nurse told me she didn’t think it was an MS symptom! She also told me that the problems I have with my speech was also not MS related! Over the years I have mentioned various symptoms that the MS nurse has not recognised as being MS related; then I look on this forum to find others suffer the same symptom!
