Hi, just wanted to hear other ladies opinions about their periods and if they cause any ms symptoms. After never having any problems with my periods, I have noticed that they are getting a bit heavier and I am feeling very tired and feel dreadful for a couple of weeks. Thinking about getting a coil to try and stop them, has anyone else done this? Don’t need it for contraception (hubby’s had the snip! ) would love to get rid of PMT too!!
I find my tiredness and dizzy when I bend down. Since my ms started I keep becoming aneamic after my period. I got the coil fitted but I bled very heavy for 6 weeks so took it out. I’ve a doc appointment next week for latest relapse but she’s going to look at my periods contraception etc. When I was at dietician on Tuesday she said although I’m not aneamic any more my stores are low whatever that means. I asked for hysterectomy but got told know. I asked about sterilization but got no
Hi,
I don’t think the getting heavier is an MS symptom - and maybe should be looked into. However, the rest is - many women find their MS symptoms worse at that time of the month. One theory is that it’s due to the natural rise in body temperature at that time (many people’s symptoms worsen with heat). But it may also have something to do with hormones at a more fundamental level, as many more women than men have MS.
I struggled with terrible periods for years, blissfully unaware I might be ill. Shortly after diagnosis, I learnt it might not just be traditional “women’s stuff”, but my periods could actually be aggravating the illness I hadn’t known I had. Went straight to the doctor’s and got the pill (not using for contraception). Not quite a perfect fix, and took a couple of goes to find the right one, but I must say life has been better since. Periods are shorter and less debilitating. Also, because of my time of life, they had been getting very close together - three weeks, instead of four. With them making me feel worse for the best part of a fortnight, as you say, I’d only been getting one decent week before I was poorly again. So if nothing else, the pill has at least spaced them out to the proper interval, so I’m not permanently feeling even worse than I have to.

Ask for a referral to gynecology. I did and had a sub-total hysterectomy. Left ovaries so no need for HRT. Best thing I ever did. No dreaded flooding and I saved a fortune on pads etc. Drs were a little reluctant as I was only 31 but they soon agreed it was the best course of action.
Hi,
I am going through this at the moment. My mobility pretty bad and periods quite heavy and regular. Found that my symptoms were even worse during period and felt really tired and ‘drained’.
My GP suggested depo-provera injection as in a lot of cases periods stop completely. He suggested ‘Cerazette’ pill, which contains the same hormones as the injection, for a month and if I don’t have any problem with it I then con have the injection.
Hopefully it works - was with my neuro yesterday and forgot to mention it to him. Partial hysterectomy sounds like a good solution tho.
I’m bit worried aboout weight gain as it is one of the common side affects with the pill and injection and since starting the pill 2 weeks ago I’m hungry all of the time. Team that with no exercise due to mobility!!!
