Yes, I agree with Achord. Certainly not on his politics but I think that you should agree to differ and as Grif Rhys Jones said on Question Time last night. It is time to move on.
yep , time to move on indeed , believe it or not my convictions are not that strong about politics in general , I really don’t believe there’s much to choose between them all these days , but this discussion has given us a few things to talk about for sure over the last few days , makes a change when you don’t get out much , must get a life LOL
Was a ridiculous thing to see in my opinion, adults acting like a bunch of sulky kids lol and they couldn’t be heard…unless you were standing with them? On the subject of the protestors did anyone else see the report about Romany Blythe in today’s papers? She was the charming organiser of the vile London ‘death parties’ and apparently she bought her Islington home under the Right To Buy scheme in 2006 for £141,000 and sold it four years later for £298,000…so it appears that extreme anti-Thatcherite Miss Blythe used the scheme to make a huge sum of cash. If she had sold it within three years she would have had to repay some cash to the council.
Speaking next to a burning effigy of the former Prime Minister at a demo last weekend in Trafalgar Square, she said: 'The council houses were sold, what a wonderful thing to be able to own your own home and I have no problem with poorer people being able to buy their own home but that money went straight to central government.
‘It wasn’t used to build more council houses for people for affordable rents. Teachers have to come in to work from miles away. People can’t afford to live in central London.’ So, yet another socialist hypocrite.

By the way I forgot to say…Ms Blythe is a TEACHER!!Everyone’s gone very quiet on this thread lol.
I thought we’d moved on Pat ? , now I’m a hijacker, a protester, a disruptive withholder of freedom, a ranter, irritating, and innapropriate ,? , I don’t recognise this description of me, but yes I stand by my opinion that it was a disgusting and dangerous thing to lob a bottle at a horse , I’ve worked with horses all my life , and I can tell you that they are trusting , intelligent and docile creatures , (unless frightened) also they have the advantage of no political motives at all , so in my eyes innocent ?
and yes it was maybe one protester that threw it , but sometimes others follow what they’ve seen ? , but apart from hurting the horse with a bottle , the potential upset and panic from horses is un measurable , they are creatures that rely on flight of foot in the wild when attacked , and they will blindly run through or over anything to get away , and that includes crowds of people , protesters or not , they wouldn’t stop and ask , and if only you can imagine six horses towing a several ton gun carriage (with no brakes) into a crowd at high speed , then you’ll perhaps understand my anger at it , and realise that it only takes one to cause it ?
so my point is that sometimes you can make exceptions for ‘one off’s’ but not always surely ?
Yes, please please please could we let this one go now, she’s gone and nothing we say or do is going to change the past or how we felt or feel now…today is a beautiful sunny day and I’m going to get back in the sunshine and lap up all that lovely vitamin D…xxxxxxx
well I respect your opinion George (whatever schadenfreude means ?) , and was just hoping we could all be credited with having an opinion , after all it’s not like I thought anyone on here threw things , or chanted , or chained themselves to railings , I just had an opinion on it ? , I just hope we can all calmly move on, change the subject and be helpful to one another again ? after all , it seems ages since anyone felt that they had to flounce off ?
now what shall we talk about ? whether Boris is better than Ken ? LOL
No not enjoying myself Tonto just expressing my own views on the great lady that’s all. My point that it had gone very quiet was because no-one posted in defence of defend Romany Blythe, which was basically because her actions couldn’t be defended. It’s also interesting to note that just because I don’t subscribe to the anti Thatcher lynch mob approach on this forum I am ignorantly told to move on by Anu, which doesn’t surprise me in the least…
Achord thankyou for your intelligent post about the horse which was attacked by the moron, you have explained very well how this incident could have caused mayhem as horses when frightened just bolt and that could have resulted in fatalities. Unfortunately it takes a degree of intelligence to recognise that fact, which was lacking on the day and now on this forum it appears.
George I have always respected you and you are right, the lady is gone and we all need to let her rest in peace.
I don’t see the need to debate every small point and respect the fact that different opinions exist, but really don’t buy the wife, mother and grandmother argument. Does that mean husbands, fathers and grandfathers should never be criticised, regardless of the misery caused? This strikes me as being pretty daft.
I really agree with Whammel on this. Of course we can criticise her… we are criticising her politics and the decisions she made as as politician, along with the Conservitive government of the day.
Continually using this ‘wife, mother, grandmother’ argument is ridiculous. And it’s a sexist argument. A person’s private life, family etc, has absolutely nothing to do with HIS or HER public and political life.
As a woman who had gone to university and had a successful career prior to going into politics, I’m sure that Thatcher herself would have hated this ‘wife, mother, grandmother’ nonsense.
I am not being sexist, and I agree that people are entitled to their opinion - as am I.
I am expressing empathy towards her family at this time. That is all.
