swollen feet

Is swollen feet common in MS, cant get a hold of my MS nurse to check

hi trish

why not see your gp until you can get in touch with your ms nurse?

GPs must see lots of people with swollen feet.

possibly your circulation.

try circling your ankles - ie draw a circle in the air using your toes.

it probably is common in ms because we all exercise less than we should.

good luck

Hiya

Yes I et this from time to time. Sometimes my ankle can go a bluish colour.

I showed both my GP and MS Nurse and they both said it is the MS and to do what Carole has suggested and circle your ankle.

Hope you get to see sometime to at least put your mind at rest. It is a bit frightening when you get this happen.

I’ve got cold, swollen , purple/mottled feet most of the time, circulation problem probably related to MS.

Can’t walk very far but do try to do exercises.

See your GP may be ble to help.

Don’t know if it’s common in ms but I was offered some sessions of reflexology by my local ms society. First time I thought it was an odd sort of thing to have done, but…Having had this in my feet a bad day when I couldn’t even feel them, and they were blue with cold due to lack of circulation, I’m sure I could have skipped out of there! Try a session if you can. A wonderful feeling and will help move any fluid buildup.

Hi my foot was swollen for the first time ever last week. My right leg is full of the tingling pins and needles etc, on top of this I keep going over on my ankle and when this happens the tingling etc gets worse. So I’m unsure, is going over on my ankle to do with MS or have I done ligament damage with causes this, so then the question is was the swollen ankle for 3 days to do with wearing an ankle bandage for a few hours on one day. All unsure, my MS nurse said it could be anything so still no idea but swelling gone for now and I hope yours does soon

Hi

See your GP.

I am in pressure bandages at this moment.

My legs and feet were badly swollen but evidently it’s common in wheelchair bound people.

Try and put and kep you feet and legs raised and if possible move you ankles about.

Wouldn’t wait for your MS nurse see your GP as soon as possible.

Hi Folks

Thanks for the advice , going to see a cardiologist on monday , GP and MS nurse said because you are still trying to keep active we need to check if there is any issues with your heart, had a good cry yesterday, then thought this may be a good thing as both my parents died with heart attacks so if there is something there then get it fixed if nothing there and down to MS will just have to live with it

Bless you Trish, my thoughts are with you .

Hi Trish

If you also have purple/red/mottled patches under your toes or in fingers/hands you probably have Raynaud’s. This circulatory disease also causes tissue to swell in the feet and legs which can also cause awful pain. I am on Adipine and it has helped so ask you GP about this.

Many with neurological disease also gain the added bonus of another - try not to worry too much and raise your legs as this will help.

Cheers

Moira

thanks Moira

I am looking at the aspect that i can get this seen to with regards my heart due to hubby having private health insurance, they usually don’t allow me blame it on my MS ,but as my my mum and dad had fatal heart attacks want to check to make sure everything is OK your probably right , I did ask GP if it wasn’t heart related she said just down to your age. But ironically that is what a previous GP said about my MS , saying i was getting old and that was the reason for tiredness, i was 43 at the time

Have had the tests done and heart is fine, parents heart attacks down to the fact they were heavy smokers, as everything is coming out fine, belive it is the MS and the menopause , as friend (health) said she had swollen feet when she was going through the menopause.

Well best ÂŁ150 spent as i now know heart is healthy, even healthier than hubby

Another thing you can do, if drawing circles with your ankles is boring, is “drawing” the letters of the alphabet with your ankle, which also help to get the blood flowing.

Funny, I’ve just noticed my right foot is swollen too - seems it’s called ‘Lymphedema in Multiple Sclerosis’.

I haven’t seen my GP, but I’ll try the advice mentioned here, and in this leaflet and see if it works.

My bed is electric so I can raise my feet easily and try some exercises mentioned above.

Like others - my feet are always very cold and blue - so I thought I’d try writing - IGLOO with my toes.
