I am just reaching out to you all because I am getting fed up. I keep getting some sediment in my tube which causes a blockage and I bypass. I have had a flush but I think the nurse has said that I get a bladder spasm and the flush just comes straight out so no good. I have my catheter change regularly and this does help but the bypassing in between is getting me down. Can people help thanks Amy?
Hi Amy,
I haven’t got a catheter, but I self catheterise 6 times a day. For bladder spasms they can prescribe medication or bladder Botox. If you’re still under a urologist seek advice from them or via your GP or your MS nurse can ask for referral back to urology. I hope you get some relief soon.
Had to have a catheter for just a short time last year @Amy1 . It bypassed the whole time I had to have it. Even went to A&E on one occasion because it seemed to be pouring out. They didn’t seem to do much as it was soon bypassing again. Haven’t currently got one in but they have talked about it again. I believe that they do have different sizes and different materials that they’re made out of too. Probably more expensive if it’s not one that they normally use but, it’s an avenue worth exploring if it could help you with your current predicament. Wishing you all the best and hopefully you’ll get something sorted out soon enough.
I had a SPC fitted early July. First week or so went OK but then kept getting blockages with a full bladder and bypassing.
Called the district nurses several times where they flushed it but they wouldn’t change it for me as I hadn’t had the first one done by Urology.
Also went to A&E multiple times, one of which ended up being a stay in overnight, where they changed the catheter.
I started on a 16 ch.
Saw the urologist and was changed to 18 ch and had a bladder washout (under a general anesthetic).
Since the change I get sediment buildup in the SPC but squeezing the tube or giving it a flush has helped clear it out. I get the feeling of needing to bypass but these two methods seem to help.
I am also drinking about 4 litres of water a day.
Hope this is of some help to you.
Thanks for replying. I can’t have a flush because I bypass it ,the nurse thinks I spasms so given me medication. I haven’t tried yet. I can’t change myself and have to wait for the Carers so it’s just getting me down being wet and washing trousers et cetera. The problem I have is I always want an answer with MS and you can’t get answers for any problems. It could be many thing!h
