Stopped solifenacin - suprise benefit to bowels

I’ve been on solifenacin for a few years to try and help with bladder frequency and urgency issues. before that I was on oxbutylin, detrusitol. Recently a bladder scan, before and after peeing, showed that I was retaining too much urine. As a result of this, the continence advisor wanted me to stop taking solifenacin to see if this had any impact.

Also for years, I’ve had issues with constipation. A few things have helped - eating plenty fibre, drinking plenty water, psyllium husks, lactulose. Occasionally though, I also had to use dulcolax when things weren’t moving. The month before stopping solifenacin, I had to take dulcolax on 5 different occasions to help things along.

Since stopping solifenacin, not only has the urinary retention amount dropped significantly, but the bowels have been behaving impeccably. 6 weeks now and not constipated once. Long May this continue.

If only I had been taking Solifenacin. I’d stop in a minute to have well behaved insides.

Great news Derek.
