It’s done! She was a nice lady who I haven’t met before.
She explained that a new Care Act has recently come out. And they have to see everyone on Direct Payments who they haven’t seen for a few years.
She asked how i was coping with everything and i told her how i am weaker and more tired, plus how Hubby’s health isn’t any better. He has rheumatoid arthritis for those of you who may not already know.
She asked if he’d had a carers’ assessment and he said no, as there was no benefit to him in it. But the new care act provides carers with £20 a week!!! So he is applying!!!
We also asked if we could have a 3rd night’s sleep over, as he really benefits from them. She is going to ask, but can’t promise.
So, all in all, it seemed to go better than I’d anticipated!
Thats great news! I’m so glad it went well and all is sorted
Have to say i’ve been really lucky with Social services, they came out and assessed me last month and so far have arranged new physio, set up carecall and all this week I have builders making alterations to my home: widening doorways, taken out he wall and adding a ramp outside!
I’m really impressed with how quick everything has been sorted out.
Big sigh of relief then Poll. lnteresting - the Carers allowance - as we have never tried for that as my OH is retired. l did think l should apply for higher personal care allowance - as l am far worse now then when l first applied. But with all the changes with DLA - which l still get - and PIP - l felt l did not want to rock the boat.
When you watch the programmes on ‘Benefit Scroungers’ - it amazes me how so many scum-bags get away with thousands- and they can hardly speak English. Some have more then one passport - several aliases - and actually claim from more then one country. Getting flats and houses in London - on benefits and sub-letting them. One young woman was buying her council owned house on the ‘right to buy’ scheme funded by the other properties she rented out. All paid for by social services.
Hope you have settled down in your comfy seat with a good up of tea and a cream cake. The best medicine.
Frances, this £20 a week for hubby is part of a carers assessment. He is retired and the regular CA stopped when he got his state pension. He has to apply for the new allowance. It seems it is part of this new Carers Act.
