SPC (Supra Pubic Catheter) granulation treatments

Hi!
I had a SPC fitted about 18 months ago and everything is good.
I do have ‘granulation’ around the SPC enter/exit ‘wound’ which is not uncomfortable just unsightly.
I assume that this is par for the course and wonder what strategies or treatments others employ to manage/reduce this natural response of the body.
As always grateful for the advice and suggestions of forum members.

Hi
I was prescribed steroid cream which cleared it up very quickly. It’s a very low dose but don’t over treat as it can cause skin thinning.

Hi Purplebubbles,
Thank you for your reply and your comment of not over doing the application of cream.
I’ll contact the doctor – though nowadays it is easier contacting the dead! LOL.
I wonder if this is the only remedy?
I’d still be interested in hearing from other forum members different ways of dealing with the granulation issue.

Hi, my district saw this over granulation once…it’s the body’s natural instinct to close a wound or get rid of a foreign body. She got a steroid cream for me.

Other than that the SPC wound is gently washed in the shower daily, then cleaned again with prescribed Senset foam wash, then dressed with prescribed gauze and tape.

Hi PBMS,
Thank you for your reply.
Could you tell me the name of the cream and strength.
That would be really helpful.
Once again thanks for taking time to answer my question.
Best wishes
Bob

Hi Bob., I’m sorry but it was a long time ago and I don’t remember.
Your nurse will give you the right thing.

Thank you for your original advice.

I wonder if anyone has used silver nitrate sticks?
I’ve no idea what these are, where you get them, or how effective they are in dealing with granulation.
