I got an spc catheter inserted a month on Wednesday coming…still unhealed but slowly improving…no pain anymore but am fed up…is this healing time normal? And any tips re:leg bags etc.TIA
Hi Rose, I’ve had an SPC 10 years. As long as you keep it clean and covered,ie a dressing over the wound, it should be ok.
When mine was new, I noticed what looked like a blister on the inside.
I called district nurse out. she said it was over granulating and prescribed a steroid cream and it was ok.
I hate leg bags but as I am a wheelchair user, I put the urine bag into a cloth bag and hang it on the chair arm. Loose tops cover it all.

Hi Rose117
I’ve had a SPC since May. The insertion site is a permanently open wound but don’t worry it’s not as bad as it sounds. Just keep it clean and it’ll be fine. You do get used to the extra bits and pieces strapped to your leg.
If you have any more questions I’m sure me or someone on here will be able to help.
Best wishes
Sam
Hi
I had one put in a few years ago. Mine has never fully dried up. It doesn’t bother me though, I just keep a dressing on it. I wonder if it means mine is easy to change.
Not really got any tips about the leg bag. I’ve tried a few different ones, to find the one that I like best. I have ones with a slide valve, rather than the more common ones with an up-down lever, as I found I could sometimes catch the lever and accidentally open it (usually when taking my trousers off)
Feel free to ask if you have any questions
