Hi, I’m still getting used to my new power chair - I keep forgetting that my feet stick out (I can’t see them as my knees are in the way of my view). The result is that I keep bashing them against skirting boards, door frames etc. Over the past few years, I’ve cut my toes a few times as I don’t wear shoes and socks in the house. If the toe has subsequently become red, sore and probably infected, it’s meant calling out the doctor for a home visit - which I feel very guilty about - and getting a prescription for antibiotics. My poor hubby has then had to collect the antibiotics from the chemist as they don’t deliver. As he works away from home, I’ve had to wait until a Saturday when he’s around. My hubby is currently in hospital with a cyst on his liver, and yes, you’ve guessed it, I’ve bashed a toe against a door frame and it’s now red, sore and painful. Can anyone suggest anything that I can do, other than paracetamol. I see my Neuro tomorrow - first time in ages - and I’m hoping she’ll prescribe something. Probably quicker - and easier - than seeing my GP. There doesn’t appear to be a cut. Thanks, Heather
If there’s no cut an ice pack might help take inflammation down without need for abx…
Have u any tea tree oil, lavender etc I find this settles things untill u can get the right drugs xx
Got out of bed this morning, put weight on the foot with the sore toe, and promptly fell over from the pain. My eldest had to get my neighbour to help me get up. Called the emergency doctor who prescribed antibiotics, but he also called Social Services to arrange for some urgent care while my toe is sore and hubby is in hospital. Quite a day. Heather
Hi, me and sore toes can identify only too well with your sore toes hun! Having huge size 7/8 feet makes them stick out quite a distance!
I had to have doorways widened, when I got my wheelchair. I did so much damage to my knees as well.
Best to start wearing footwear indoors, I reckon.
I wear granny boottee slippers, as they have a thickish sheepskin lining.
It has taken my toenails over a year to recover from all the bangs and knocks.
