So Embarrassed

So I am finally expecting the results of the MRI any day.

My husband chased them up yet againand was told last week the letter needed typing up and on Friday the consultant needed to sign it.

Anyway I have had some bladder and bowel issues for a while but today was the first time I have wet myself. I didn’t flood but it was enough to show through my jeans and mark anything I sat on. I was out trying to sort out some stuff with college which was stressful enough. I tried to buy some new jeans and my card was declined which was also hugely embarrassing. Being off work for so long has not exactly improved my financial situation.

I am so upset, I have never been so humiliated. I have a meeting with work on Wednesday where they are probably going to dismiss me because I am not physically capable of going back to my old job too.

I am seeing my GP anyway on Friday so I will have to tell him I guess. I already take oxibuytin for excess sweating, 6 tablets a day. Are there other options? Will I need to have more accidents before I get pads atc?

Sorry for rambling!

What a bad time! I haven’t had a visible incident yet but am in fear of it. Your employer has a duty to make adjustments and there are government rules and help for your employers. I’m not sure they are allowed to dissmiss you.

Tell your GP - they can’t help if they don’t know. They’ve heard it all before.

I’ve been off work for 19 months following a brain haemorhhage and can’t do my job anymore so the discharge isn’t unexpected it has just been badly handled.

I am seeing the GP on Friday so will see what they say x

Please make sure that they are meeting their full legal obligations at work - dismissing someone because of ill health is a tricky step for employers; they have to jump through a lot of hoops to do it without room for discrimination claims.

As far as your bladder accident goes, please don’t be embarrassed. It happens to a lot more people than you would ever dream of and it is not your fault. There are various things that you can do to help prevent it happening again - your GP will be able to advise you and refer you to a continence service if needed. Don’t be shy about talking about it - GPs hear it all the time!

Really feel for you FeeHutch. That sounds really awful. Just wanted to offer large quantities of support. Have you tried Kegel execises? I had a bit of a problem with the bladder, wanted to go all the time. I did the Kegel excercises and it did help.

Good luck and a big hug. Hope it goes well with your GP.

Thank you all

Hi.

I don’t normally look on this forum but I just had to reply when I saw your post.

Please don’t worry about the wee situation you are not alone. I have had the accidents for both bladder and bowels and unfortunately M.S. loves to humiliate you when you’re low already. Please, please mention it to your doctor or self refer to a continence advisor, you will not embarrass them or yourself.

They can do tests to check what is happening with your bladder and there are a range of medications as well as other methods to help you. If your bowels aren’t emptying properly this can also put strain on your bladder and then cause these problems. The sooner you mention it to your G.P. the quicker they can help. I left mine too long and the psychological issues were huge, as I was always worrying an accident would happen.

Try carrying a spare pair of trousers and pants with you, I have some leggings in my bag at all times in case I get caught short. I’m a long way down the line and I have botox and use peristeen but you should find other things to help before these, although I now have a life and that’s all that matters.

I hope your work situation improves and I’m sure they cannot sack you if you are coming back from an illness, get CAB on the phone and see if they can help or a union if you are part of one?

Good luck and do remember you are never alone, M.S. makes you feel pants at times but don’t let it win and get some help.

Hi, as everyone else has said, please dont feel bad about your wetting problems. its easy for anyone to say that, but us here know how it feels.

I use NHS pads. I had continence service/district nurses visit me at home. I tried an in dwelling catheter for 5 months and didnt get on with it. So i changed to using pads. I get them free. I am prescribed 4 a day. They are delivered 3 monthly, so need a bit of space to be stored. Mine are kept in the garage. I always take spares and a change of clothes when i go out. Its like taking a big baby out!!!

Once a week the soiled pads are collected by the council.

I take 20mg of oxybutynin a day, which do help quite a bit.

Hope you get sorted love.

Thanks everyone for understanding.

I take 15mg of oxibutin so maybe upping it will help. I will tell him on Friday.

Just back from work, I am retiring at the end of the month at the grand old age of 33! This is as a consequence of my brain haemorrhage not the newer symptoms I am having investigated. I am happy with the staff benefits I have been offered. Very odd feeling though!

4 a day? Bl**min 'eck…is that how little we’re supposed to wee!!!
