Snow, not fun

The snow is starting. Its lovely (until people walk on it), but it will mean that i won’t be able to go out, won’t be able to use a w’chair or scooter, not good and its cold, def’ not fun.

Hello all,

I managed to get into work today - but I don’t know what the driving will be like getting home. I had to come to work today as I am on a training course :frowning:

Never mind, Hope everyone is ok with this weather. I slipped on my drive this morning whilst clearing the snow off the car. Got a sore head! Still, at least I managed to get up.

Have a good day all,

Jackie

Take care everyone - ‘ls your journey neccessary’ - This time 3yrs ago - l slipped when down the garden letting out my ducks/hens and fractured my ankle in ‘4’ places. What a shock - and l am still having trouble with the ankle. lt was like a meccano set for months metal rods/plates/screws/wires. Since then l have been taking my vitd3 - and my bone-density is now ‘normal’.

l did get to waitrose yesterday - and stocked up on ready-meals/ tinned soups etc for my lovely old mum[89]. l have to load the shopping onto my Tramper to take to mum as her bungalow is set way back from the road. Luckilly, she lives just around the corner from me.

Our local Aldi had run out of bread yesterday - and my OH went to Tesco’s - and he said it was like the run up to xmas - packed out.

My dogs are loving the snow - and young Reggie - its his first snow. They have been chasing one another around having a lovely time. Now they are back in and hoping l will light the wood-burner soon.

Yipes! I got to work this morning but the snow started and was getting worse. I decided to just to go home there and then. I’m home now but the journey in the car was probably the worst I’ve done in my entire life.

It looks like a few days indoors coming up.

Wishing you a safe time ahead.

Mark

im camping this weakend with my scout troop. (im a leader). The area we are camping is one of the worst hit areas in yorshire for the snow so it should be fun. I dont mind the snow that much i prefure the cold and im good on my feet at the moment. Havnt told my scouts yet but they are sleaping in hamocs. Only me and the other leaders have got tents. Lol james

It looks beautiful here, but no, I won’t be going out. I’ve got enough food to last for a few days, even if I end up down to toast and soup.

I’m really disappointed, though, as I hardly ever do anything at weekends, but this weekend I was meant to meet up with a friend who was coming down from London. I’ve got a feeling she probably won’t be coming anyway, the way things are looking, but even if she does, I don’t think I feel confident enough to go out.

The annoying thing is that I expect it will be quite safe in town, where we would have met, as widespread gritting, generally higher temperatures, and volume of traffic would usually mean ice clears much more quickly than it does here.

But the dangerous part of the journey would be getting out of my own street. It’s a small cul-de-sac, and never gritted. What’s more, there’s a totally unnecessary slope, right outside my house. It’s all open-plan, so there are no walls or fences to grab hold of, as I make my precarious way to the main road. :frowning:

I’m going to have to regretfully tell my friend I can’t go, as I know there’s not going to be a miracle thaw by tomorrow, and I’m so afraid of falling.

After two years and 3,000 road miles I got to play in the snow on my buggy. It’s a hoot, with power slides, monstrous over-steer and a general disregard for life and limb.I had to go to the Doctorsrs and the main road was clear, wet and empty, which makes it safer than a usual friday.

I managed a 360 degree spin on a side road much to the amazement of a snowy postman.I’ll be using it for ever,so I might as well have some fun.

KIATIAT…keep it all tucked in and toasty,

I like looking at the snow, but hate it with a passion. As soon as it freezes i go into panic,I had to go out sat night, and walked in the road. The pavements and side roads are horrendous, and i lose all of my confidence. The stick goes one way and i try and hold onto my balance.Funny to see,but not to me.For the last few days ive been off,and im not looking forward to going out on my own at 5.45am tomorrow morning.

i cannot function at all in the cold my legs stiffen and i cant walk not that i can walk very well anyway but cold makes it worse does anybody experience this? it hits me as soon as i open the door and whoosh im gone! any advice anybody other than telling me to stay in! haha

lozzie

Hi Lozzie
i’m the same, i’m awful in the cold!

I just wrap up and go out only as necessary.

I was once told that with MS as we use a lot of energy fighting this ongoing and our energy is limited anyway as we use four or five times the energy that healthy folk use just to function, we should therefore not let ourselves get either, cold, hungry or tired to therefore conserve what energy we can!

The cold bit isn’t easy in this country!

Hi Lozzie My legs are worse in the cold too. Sue x

Hi Jools

thank you for your reply it makes me feel im not the only one it took me 25minutes sat to just get my boots on and ages to manouvre myself into the car let alone get out again and walk to the restaurant!

mind you effort was worth it lovly company and curry fab

keep warm

lozzie

hi bambi19

ive found that if you just stand completely still for a few moments and bend knees it helps with stiffness and you can get moving again!

lozzie

/Sigh.

It was just starting to thaw around here: I can see whole patches of grass and pavement. I thought by tomorrow, it might be safe to go out. But I see the snow warning has just gone up for tomorrow, so looks like we’re in for another lot, before the first is even gone.

I’ll be literally down to beans on toast soon. I suppose I’ll have to use online shopping if I can’t get out soon, but last time it was like this, I couldn’t get a slot, because there was such high demand. And then when I eventually did get one, basics like bread and potatoes still didn’t come, because there’d been panic buying. :frowning:
