Slurred speech and sleeping for 16 hours

Hi:wave:t3: I’m living with my lovely partner who has some really worrying symptoms. He first started complaining of tingling in his right hand months ago and for the last 3 years at least has had a shaking hand. Despite so many attempts at getting him to see the doctor, he refused. He kept complaining about being tired, would slur as if drunk, and more recently on our days off, has been sleeping for pretty much the entire day…not remembering anything I’d said to him just before he went (quickly) to sleep. I ended up recording him while appearing drunk and had to show him, and eventually said if he didn’t see the doctor, I didnt know what to do anymore. I even breathalysed him pre and post chocolate to test for 'auto brewery syndrome ', and his levels skyrocketed. I showed the GP his video a couple of months ago, but this was before it got much worse. This week he went finally and has been referred to the neurologist. I know we have to wait but does this sound like MS? Has anyone had these symptoms so quickly? He’s 56. Sorry for long post, but have to reach out somewhere or to someone. I love him to pieces and will be there no matter what the diagnosis, but figured knowledge is power…thank you so much for reading  Karen x

Hi Karen
That sounds like a strange & worrying set of symptoms. We’re not Doctors on here, but my first thought was a stroke or TIA - has that been ruled out by the GP? GP’s vary in competence for diagnosing MS but they should recognise a stroke when they see one.
Good luck with getting to the bottom of it,
Graeme :+1:

Hi Karen, quite a journey. Some of the symptoms you describe are common in lots of neurological illnesses, ms included. So although a bit belated, starting with a neurological exam is what your partner needs.

Try to be understanding, I know not easy, many of us have been through periods of denial trying to ignore what is happening to our bodies.

You sound like you need a listening ear, keep in touch.

All the best.

Hi Rogue, love the name by the way  yes, it has been a journey and feel it is only just starting. I feel really helpless…I’m a nurse and try allsorts to make him feel better, but i think its the worry thats the worst part if im honest. He takes bp meds but his bp has remained within his normal range throughout …I’ll keep smiling  its him that’s going through it, and definitely feeling the pressure of no man’s land! We shall see what happens…thanks so much for replying and your kind words :hugs:

Hi :wave:t3: thank you so much for replying …the GP did query mini strokes, but although he hasn’t ruled them out is more concerned about his reaction to stimulus tests he did. For instance, when the GP asked him, without looking to put pressure on the GP’s hand to stop it moving, without him realising his hand flattened almost immediately :woman_shrugging:t2:also, there’s been a 2cm muscle waste (GP’s words), to his right arm, his strongest. We’ll have to wait until he manages to see the neurologist I guess, though am looking at private for the MRI…but then who reads it lol?! Thsnknyiu again
