Hi guys, I hope you’ve all had an amazing, and not too exhausting crimbo I’m glad it’s finally over just because I no longer have babysitting duties >=)
I just had a quick question, I woke up this morning around 5ish, and had a really REALLY dull ache in my leg, it’s gone now, but it was the strengest feeling, almost like growing pains, unfortunately that’s impossible. Gutting really seeing as I’m only 5’6 B-)
Has anyone else had this? Is it something to be concerned about?
It just goes to show, I read it and saw exactly what you meant to say, so had to work thru it to see what you meant LOL
I just wanted to comment that I don’t really get the growing pains BUT I feel like I have been working out, when I’ve done nothing of the sort! I think spasticity it inclined to just leave you feeling a bit overworked:(
Also ‘strangest’ not ‘strengest’ Blatantly not at my spelling best in the morning haha. Yeah you’re right it felt like I’d been doing stretching exercises. Very strange. My Christmas was good thanks. But it’s back to normality now which I like. Thanks for the input anyway. You hit the nail on the head as to what it feels like! Dave x (didn’t re-read that 3 times or anything )
LOL - my typing is atrocious, compacted by my really old laptop on which some buttons refuse to work… the ‘p’ button didn’t work for ages but it now seems to be cured but instead the digit to the number seven won’t work.
We have a new laptop but I just can’t cope with the soft touch keyboard either. I type a sentence then have to backfill about 3 digits
I check everything before I post now so I get miffed with myself when I see a post of mine with typos in sigh
I feel like I need a really good sports massage but suspect it would hurt like hell, stretching takes a LOT of energy these days
I feel your pain there, my phone is a beast for it, will write out the whole word right up to the last letter, then boom! Changes the whole word. Technology is not pushing us forward haha.
Stretching is the main problem for me, supposed to loosen your muscles but I just struggle to do the exercise and as a result I’ve been limping around like the hunchback of Notre Dame for the last month and a bit (re: baclofen I suspect) A sports massage is usually worth the pain, although I wouldn’t want to repeat the first time. Ever. Wasn’t as relaxing as I’d so happily hoped
Hi Dave, ooh that dull ache is awful and you’re right it does feel like growing pains. Painkillers do help I find (they don’t always help with all MS pain but with that particular pain they seem to). A really good painkiller that I’ve know two doctors recommend is one Paracetamol plus one Ibuprofin. I find it so good I call it ‘the magic combo’ and a doctor friend of my sisters says it’s the one that doctors always take themselves. No more than 3 times a day of course… God knows I don’t want to be responsible for killing you off! Anyway try it and hope it helps… another one I use is Lemsip… not only a dose of Paracetamol but has the added comfort of hot lemon drink. Pat xx
I to automaticaly read Christmas in the first message then had to re-read it when I saw you second lol
What you are feeling is one of my main symptoms, I feel it all the time, but it is a lot worse at the end of the day & after I have been sleeping, I find it hard to describe as it hurts but not in a way pain killers would take the edge off, and when I stretch the pain after is intence for about 30 seconds but it feels like longer
I had a massage and really couldnt walk after my muscles didnt know what the hell had gone on and my balance was non existent.
I am in the process of borowwing my friends excersise bike to see how that goes and I am thinking of going to the local pool but not to swim far but to walk in the water x
I wake up with an intense pain in both legs most mornings. Once I’ve woken up with it the pain doesn’t disappear until I get up. Once I’ve got ready and got downstairs it disappears until I wake up with it the following morning!
Hello Dave, I have a myriad of painful symptoms when trying to sleep. They come and go and can often keep me awake. Most of the time I just enjoy lying down, not having to worry about doing anything until the sun peeps over the lonely horizon, sending a shard of irridescence streaking across the calm grey ceiling of the bedroom. It also helps my creative writing habit. I hope new year brings you happiness amongst the drama of the MS pain. Steve.
I wake up sometimes during the night, with pain in my side, (around hips), I have to move cause the pain is awful, then give it a few minutes and pain is gone.
Hi Pat, I have some menthol Lemsip lying around somewhere so I’ll definitely give that a try, no-one here likes it so it’s all for Dave
Ruthy - It’s not a pain per se, but it’s a very dull ache and I usually wake up in the early hours because of it - but I hope the excersise bike and swimming works for you, I want to try the swimming myself, so let me know how it works please
Chris - It’s not so much burning, more like a deep dull ache, like it’s been stretched, it only lasts half an hour max
Sarah - I’m sorry to hear that it doesn’t stop til you get up, it is a major pain in the arse for half an hour so I hope it ceases for you soon
Steve - It definately DOES help your creative writing, I’ve never hear the pain and mental torture of waking up but quite so poetically
Mel - Mine seems to be in my knees, which is why I attributed it to growing pains, albeit quite late haha, I hope it improves for you in new year!
I also get more pain at night, what I would say is like a growing pain but burning also. I think its more noticeable at night cos there are no distractions like in the day.
I take amitriptyline which sometimes takes the edge off, but sleeping is always a problem. At a height of five foot I just wish these growing pains would work!
Oh Sonia, I so agree, I havent worn heels for yonks, but I still miss them so, and it sounds as though we both really needed the height of those heels.
On a plus side, being in a wheelchair I never wear any shoes out! but that doesnt stop me buying new ones, a girl has to have some pleasure!
Hahaha MS really saves on shoe leather doesn’t it. In winter I always wear a pair of Dr Martin’s chelsea boots which I’ve owned for a few years. There is no wear on them at all. They look brand new! Regarding pain… does anyone else get a really bad pain in a buttock if sitting too long? I always get it in right buttock and it is extremely painful. The only place I don’t get it is on my recliner which is memory foam… but good Lord whenever I’m away from home I suffer badly… ok ok I’ve got to say it… it is a pain in the bum! Pat xxx
